    Re: Generational Comment

I know several professional men and women with tats. None have the full sleeve or neck tats but they do have some. People with neck and face tats are foolish IMO and one day they will regret it.
I don't think anyone can be taken seriously in certain business settings with tats showing on their face, neck and hands....might not be fair but thats the way it is from what I have seen.

Anyway...I guess you all are correct. I'm beginning to see the light now, I guess it's time that I dis-own my son inlaw, let me explain.

He and my step-daughter have been married for almost two years now. They both work full time (plus over time when required) and go to school part-time (U of L)...he is majoring in business...she just turned 25 and he is 26, they own their own home, both drive very nice vehicles that are actually worthy of waxing, which is more than I had at the age of 25. She just ran her first mini-marathon this past spring and he works out at the gym faithfully, he also has some fairly strong Christian values, but let's not mis religeon into this tattoo thread. But I guess I need to take what is being said here as the gospel because at sometime or another within the past year he decided to get a tattoo on his shoulder. Not sure how I should tell him that I now see him as a future rapist or murderer, maybe you all can help me out on this?
Nobody was not talking about a single tattoo that can be hidden under a person's clothing. Personally I was talking about people having tats on their cheeks, neck, hands, and places that CANNOT be covered with clothing in the workplace. Nobody has suggested that you disown your step-son-in-law or that his tat will turn him into a criminal. The future will be the gauge by which you measure the success of that couple and I hope all indicators point upward.

I guess I mistook what you wrote for something else, when you wrote that we don't see lawyers covered in tats (they usually have suits on), judges covered in tats (they usually have a robe on), famous surgeons covered in tats (they usually have full gowns, booties, face masks, etc) and bank tellers (business attire covers a lot), it just sounded like you were putting tattoo'd people in general in a not so pleasant world of their own. I agree with you...faces, necks and hands should be left alone, not sure what some people are thinking when they get those body parts inked up like they do.

    Nuff said on my part.

I'm with you on this one Chubminnow. I"ve got a few tatoo's. I guess I never knew how bad of person I really am. My wife has one, my son and daughter have some. We own a small buisness, I work a full time job, my son is a machinist, my daughter an office manager. We contribute to society, we lead healthy clean lives, I just didn't realize we were the scourge of the planet. RANT OVER!!!

Business attire for both men and women can conceal a lot. According to my wife I'm sometimes quick to judge others so I certainly could learn to live by the old saying of never judging a book by it's cover, no matter what, business suit or tattoo's should not persuade our opinions of a person in any way shape or form, but they sure as heck do.
Let me count the number of people that I know who work in the prep (embalming) rooms of funeral homes: Well, I guess the owners count, since they are morticians, and each owns several funeral homes. My lifetime friend, Rocky Bumpers his wife and son, owners of Bumpers Funeral Homes and all of the male and female morticians; my friend and close confidant, Darry (Turk) Phillips and his wife, owners of Phillips Funeral Homes and all of the male and female morticians. It's strange that you have to involve dead people to try and make your point. Any mortician worth a grain of salt treats the dead with dignity and respect and doesn't go out talking about the corpses they have seen. If they don't have enough ethics to keep their mouth shut, they should have their mortuary license revoked.

Books don't get tattoos, people do.

That's great if you want to disfigure the body God gave you it's your right, but don't expect everyone to respect or not discriminate against someone carrying the marks that were once a sign of criminals and outlaws. You are entitled to your opinion, just as it's my opinion that people who cover themselves in tattoo's and body piercings are not attractive.

Maybe this will be the next fad

I for one was not trying to put anyone down for this and if I sounded that way I'm sorry. It's not for me but to each his own is what makes the world go round. I was mainly weighing in on such a small child having one.

Went to a local grocery store recently and the young man (20's?) who checked me out was very polite and performed his job well. He turned away for a minute and I could see clean through his ear lobes! He had what looked like ceramic rings in his ears to create these holes...I just kinda smiled and thought you just deleted yourself from a few future professions.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me one bit but I really think (like me as a younger man) young adults don't understand that they will be judged on their appearance as they get older and try to jump into the professional work place environment.....if you can hold your own anyway then good for you but some folks have sealed their fate.

Just to set the record straight,I could care less what someone else does to their body, whatever floats their boat. But anybody that thinks you aren't judged by your appearance in this world is sorely mistaken.I'm sorry but I work with recovering alcoholics and addicts regularly and a huge percentage are felons and former criminals, and a huge percentage are covered in tattoo's which leads me to believe that most are not decent people,at least at that point in their life.On the other hand everybody makes mistakes and can change, but it's a hard row to hoe.

I'm just glad that my 26 year old son who is a Computer Engineer for Microsoft,my 19 year old daughter that attends a Community College, and my 10 year old son are all without tattoo's or piercings if you exclude the daughters ear rings.

Tattooing kids that young is just wrong. If it's not illegal, it should be.

Nostrodomus never said the world would end in 2012. He said "not far from the millennial age." Pretty vague. But that's for another Grumpy thread
