Don't give up that easy tyme, you can get a passports the same day in Chicago at the Federal Building (or at least you could in 1991).

Man the passport stuff is CRAZY now..........
I have a buddy that has been going to Quetico for 20 years......NEVER had a problem.......NEVER been denied a permit.....
This year, they did the in place background check and DENIED his entry into Canada based on a 17 year old DUI......Yes boys a DUI in Canada is a FELONY, and you will NOT get it.
Years ago, when their check system was CRAP, it didn't matter, but now, since the passport law passed went into effect this PAST JUNE, they are using OUR CODIS system and other systems to do immediate background checks. These checks are done for EVERYONE at the border.......NO sampling.

I don't believe same day passports is an option any longer....might be wrong, but I know the wait has been QUITE long.....4-6 weeks in most cases.
Hahahahha..........SURE.
Actually I'm probably not going to spend too much time in Canada, but I've got the permits to......We're going to the Boundary Waters, and Quetico......and will be fishing border lakes.......
In order to fish these lakes, and be legal in Canada, you not only need Permits for the BWCA, and fishing licenses for Minnesota, but you also need something called an RABC, and Crown Land Day Permits, or Quetico Day Permits, and a Canadian Fishing license.
I purchased the Canadian License and the RABC for my June trip, so I'm good.......
Also, you're supposed to have a Passport, but I've never ran into Canadian Customs or US customs 50 miles up in the park........
OK, actually I have.........1 time, but that is a completely different story, for a different time.

Weather update. We recieved 2 and 5/8 inches of rain here Saturday and especially Saturday evening with those training storms along and north of I-64. For the week I have gauged well over 4 inches of rain here at home. John Belski's blog says we will probably get another 2 inches or so for next week.
Wow, the never ending Spring continues. I could use a break at my house it's been entirely too wet. I've never seen a July like this in my whole life.
Besides the heavy rain,we got some strong wind (maybe straightline) that came in front of one of the late afternoon storms.Took down a few limbs, blew over my grill which is pretty heavy (first time that's ever happened),blew all the kids floats out of the pool into the next county, because we haven't found them yet.Worst of all damaged all my sweet corn which some was starting to mature, hopefully it will straighten up on it's own,but I basically lost 16 - 50' rows.
This has been the coolest, wetest summer that I can remember in my 50 years.
Been awful hard to keep my place mowed this year, fleas and ticks are bad around here this year.Good thing the old lady puts frontline between my shoulderblades.
Forgot to mention, the weathermen are saying it's going to be an El Nino winter, which if I remember correctly cause us to have heavy precipitation all winter.
A couple days ago the weatherman said this is the first time in the HISTORY of recording temps in KY that July didn't have 1 day over 90.........HM.Besides the heavy rain,we got some strong wind (maybe straightline) that came in front of one of the late afternoon storms.Took down a few limbs, blew over my grill which is pretty heavy (first time that's ever happened),blew all the kids floats out of the pool into the next county, because we haven't found them yet.Worst of all damaged all my sweet corn which some was starting to mature, hopefully it will straighten up on it's own,but I basically lost 16 - 50' rows.
