DC: I better watch myself. Throwing topwater when the Stripers are on the bank, I normally got the running lights out. I do have just the stern/anchor all round lit. What was your freind doing at the time? Not arguing, just wondering if I need keep keep all the lights on from now on. Thanks in advance.

not trying to rock the boat but he should have gotten a ticket..... i have just about ran people over at night cause of no running lights on....and then everyone gets mad when people turn on there spot lights... if i wouldnt have turned on my head light one night for a second on laurel i would have put the ole ranger right down the middle of an anchored pontoon in the middle of the lake..... i never run above 30 at night and they had llights on the water but they was on the other side of the boat and they didnt have a bow or stern light on at all and there was no moon and a mist on the water..... i can tell everyone on here i will have no problem writing anyone a ticket for fishing with no lights on at night...... that is taking both parties lives into your hands..... yours cause the other boat dont see u and theres cause they dont see you.... i aint trying to ruffle no feathers but that is just how i feel about that..... and then people get mad cause they got a ticket but it is the law.....

    Re: friend got a ticket

I got a ticket in Indiana once that I don't believe I deserved..........It was dusk, plenty of light out, but the sun was going down..........

I would NOT have been using headlights or ANY other light, since there was still plenty of ambient light outside.

Well, when I got to the ramp, I loaded up my boat, etc, etc, and the CO started doing his business..........he checked my live wells, check my license, check my extinguisher, checked my life preservers.............and then WROTE me a ticket for operating after dusk. I bitched about it for a few minutes with him..........He told me DUSK to DAWN was defined in Indianapolis, and I was in violation........

I pointed out across the water, to a boat across the lake MOVING and said does he have is lights on or off........obviously he could NOT tell......

He told me it didn't matter, but he could tell I was operating without lights, when I pulled up to the ramp........

He was a TOTAL BUTTHOLE...........I paid the ticket.........BUT I also discussed this in DETAIL with INDNR in Indianapolis.......

    Hey Geo,

At least he wasn't a smart a.. back side. Being a fisherman, and one that also has exceed the posted speed limit a time or two, and probably still do...LOL.. you know the old joke. Well it happened to me once... fortunately only once.. the cop says to me "hey, you're a fisherman, you don't catch them all either do you?"

Salt in the open cut sure does cause extra pain...LOL but let's me chuckle later in life. Man, gotta live a long time to chuckle at my screw ups now... LOL

    Tight lines,

    HDF

    Re: friend got a ticket

A few years back my uncle and I were fishing a tourney at Herrington. We were way back in the river running just fast enough for the front end to settle down when we almost hit a large dock that had came loose from the bank. If it had not been for our headlights we would have hit it head on. I would gladly take a ticket for running with headlights or a spotlight at 3AM. I hardly ever see anyone fishing with thier boat lights on while bank fishing after night. Most of us are guilty of that including me. If a boat comes hauling down the lake I will turn em on but I do not leave them on all night.

Can't ruffle feathers by following the law and common sense.

For example...I never get upset with any speeding ticket I get since I speed everyday and when I get caught it is just my turn.

That's the law and that's the way it goes. I fish for stripers at night in the spring and when 10 feet from the bank fishing I never have them on, it spooks the linesides. Is it wrong and I know it......Yes. If I get a ticket doing it and know it's wrong I'll just look at him and say....Your right and I'll pay the fine.

I've got mixed emotions about this law. It could be tweaked I think for fisherman litterally on the bank or within a certain distance, just some food for thought.

    Re: friend got a ticket

I bet most of us have a story about almost hitting a boat because of no lights. About a month ago, me and a couple buddies were headed back to the ramp at Tville with our lights on, it wasn't pitch dark, but close. We came around a point and right out in the middle of the lake was a boat with no lights. I looked over at my buddy driving and could tell he didn't even see it, so I yelled at him. He let up and said "What boat???" Then he finally saw it. Dangerous stuff man, get those lights on. If you have to think about whether it's too dark or not, go ahead and get em on...
