Bad enough they raid my sweet corn, but I draw the line when they start stealing drinks out of the cooler.Good thing the old ladies guard dawg was on patrol.

That's my wife's sissy dog (named Dawg ) I've got 3 around here that would give Mr Coon more than he wanted.

What happened to his back foot, looks like it's got some kind of cast on it or something?

The picture is a couple years old,it was actually taken at one of the cabins at Lake Cumberland State Park on the back deck,My wife's dawg follows her everywhere including jumping off a big rock at Laurel Lake,I think it was a splint the vet put on,it's healed now.

That is one cute dog. I'm glad you have one that is brave enough to stand up to a thieving old 'coon. Good Doggy!

I camped in a state park all last week and had lots of 'coons and squirrels come by. Those critters aren't afraid of people and will crawl over their backs. I was sitting out by a campfire one night having a late night snack of roasted chicken and a piece of carrot cake. Three 'coons came walking out from under the truck straight toward me. I thought they wouldn't come very close and just sat there watching them. They came up to within 4 feet of me and weren't slowing down. I threw a piece of chicken at them and all three of them started growling and tugging at the chicken. When they finished eating, the big one walked up beside my chair and squatted to jump on my lap. My heart was pounding out of my chest. I swung my hand around to scare him away and that seemed to be a challenge. He backed up and came running at me, stopped, and again squatted to jump. By that time I was so scared I was ready to cry down both legs and fill my shoes with tears. I jumped up out of the chair and ran around behind the camper to get away from them. The next day a person camping nearby told me she was making breakfast and had a pound of bacon lying on the table and a 'coon ran up, grabbed it and ran off. Another lady was carrying a bag of Animal Cracker cookies in the top of her purse and a squirrel jumped on her, grabbed the cookies and took off. One man made a very smart move and put all the food in a basket and set it on the front seat of his truck so the 'coons couldn't get at it. The next morning he went to retrieve the basket and his truck was a mess. He had forgotten to raise the window and the 'coons had a party.

Re: Dang Coons robbing drinks now

I took my son, nephew, and older brother on a backpack camping trip in Red River Gorge about 10 years ago.We got there late the 1st day and just camped not far off Tunnel Ridge Road. There was another campsite a few hundred feet threw the woods. My brother liked to drink a few beers and tended to get up in the night for a snack, after the fire died down and during a new moon it was pretty dark.I heard rustling around in our food pack,it continued on for along time and kept me awake. Finally I said to what I thought was my brother that I'd light a lantern so he could see and get done.He replied from the ground across the way that it wasn't him and he thought it was me.At daylight I followed a trail of potato chips and cookies strung along until I saw food goods that weren't ours.I went over to talk to the neighbor campers and they had a similar experience, except they were angry at me and accused us of raiding their food during the night. No amount of talking could convince them it was the coons that I knew had made the raid.

Man growing up we had a white pitbull named Rebel. This dog would go with us in the swamps of Florida and try to kill anything that moved. He managed to get to a skunk one night and man did it stink! He killed it and stunk of skunk whenever he got in the sun.

I helped build a Penitentiary at Myakkah City,Florida (east of Bradenton/Parish,Fl) back in 89'or 90' I think.Stayed at a friends Parents camp close to the Manatee River, but had neighbors there who hog hunted with Pit Bulls and American Standards.I went with them several trips, the dogs would grab the wild hogs and they would tie them up or burlap sack them live.I was too big a wussie to grab one myself, they had scars all over their arms and legs, but I enjoyed watching.

Plenty of skunks around my farm here, the secret recipe is Peroxide,Baking Soda, and Dawn Dish Soap to get it off the dogs.
