More Prayers Needed

Guys, I received an email from a friend and my heart is breaking. I have known him for 20 years and his story is so sad. Just a little bit about him; he's a career professional, one of the most detail oriented and smartest men I know. His office was next door to my husband's and he depended on him a lot. About 5 years ago he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and his wife left him, telling him she wasn't "ready" to take care of someone like him. She just packed her bags and walked out the door. He continued working although we could see him going downhill fast; every day was such a struggle. He worked until he had no more strength to do the job; he finally had to stop working last week and went home to live out the rest of his life, mostly alone. His son is a college student and is in and out, mostly out, of the house. Home health care comes by and does the few things they can for him and then they are gone.

His email was short because he has trouble moving and using his hands, but it was clear and to the point. It simply said, "Would you pray for the healing of someone whom doctors have diagnosed as suffering from a terminal disease? You can't help doing so if you love that person. Your real prayer is not just in words or thoughts; it is the very cry of your heart. I need your prayers so desperately, will you pray for me? Jesus' directive to us is that we pray always and never give up."

Will you please pray for my friend?

Lost my family doctor to ALS, he was a prince of a fella and cared for others way more than himself. Prayers sent bug, this is a horrible disease, especially what it does to person in the last few years, tough to watch. The man tried working to the bitter end and couldn't even sign his own name anymore, very sad.

How could I read that and NOT offer up a prayer for your friend? And for you too; God bless you for being a friend to someone so desperately in need. I too have seen how this disease takes people, and it's not something I would wish on anybody. But Steven Hawking has lived with ALS for quite some time now, so there IS hope.

We will be praying for him here bug. I have a firend that I went to school with and used to do some bowhunting with and he was diagnosed with ALS. He is now wheelchair bound and unable to use his arms or legs. A couple of years ago, the guys from Realtree Outdoors took Mitch to Florida to bag his Osceola turkey that would complete his grand slam and he did get a nice turkey.

Sad enough to be stricken with such a terrible disease...worse to endure it alone. Prayers here for your friend.
