Well, I don't think the lack of vegetation in lake that used to have them hurt the fishery. It hurt the fishing because fish don't relate to anything we're used to and we struggled to catch fish. For example, a well known lake that used to have tons and tons of dinks, shad, and full of grass, on shore, off shore, everywhere. One could go and catch dinks all day. A few years back, they sprayed it and almost wiped out the grass. The fishing started to hoovering, keeper and non keeper alike. All those dinks started a buffet on all the smaller fish because they had nowhere to hide. Now, the dinks have grown, BIG TIME, most are keepers. The fishing has never been better. My beloved home water has awesome fishing and a good mix of vegetation but the veg. got thicker and thicker. The perch population got out of hand. They introduced walleyes to help control the perch. That didn't do much good. They then sprayed it, wiped out the grass. The fishing there started to hoover big time. Night fishing is about the only time to catch decent fish. The bigguns are still there, you just can't find them. The veg. is starting to come back and fishing is slowly improving. All it needs now is for a fishing publication to print an article saying it hoovers so everyone back off of it. This publication listed it as the top 5 in the state and then all hell broke loose. Y'all don't even get me started.
