FLW Paid more money in the Cup to a fantasy fishing participant than the winner!

I know that Greg Hackney could have potentionally won 1,000,000.00 but it seems to me crazy that they are paying the fantasy fishing guys more money than the fisherman. It just seems like they are not taking care of the guys that make it all work. Can you guys tell me what you think? I love the idea that they used it to promote the common guy in fishing but it seems like a slap in the face to the guys making a living.

Thats because $500,000 of the prize money is from Ranger Contingency money and the anglers knew that going in. Its not like they told them is was $1 million and only gave them half. If Hackney would have fished out of a Ranger then he would have gotten the $1 million.

I'm sure if he, or Ike, or any of the others not fishing out of a Ranger were really concerned they could have went and bought/worked out a deal with Ranger for the F.W. Cup.

The Fantasy Fishing thing has been advertised to do just that. How much you think they made from Player's Advantage? Plus all the sponsorship they receive for it.

Just seemed to me it would cause a riff with those guys looking form the outside in is just looks strange to me its tournament fishing and the guys actually out there may have taken it as a punch in the stomach. They work hard have paid their dues and should get top billing. Now I dont see all of the numbers for dollars and many of us wouldnt see the inside world of guys like Ike or Greg Hackney. I do know they all worked very hard at everything they do and without them there would be no FLW. The guys following them are the ones playing the fantasy fishing game. I just looking from the outside in it looked strange thast all its why I opened the debate. Do you think it rubs them the wrong way? Maybe any visibility is good visibility.

I see your point, but like TR21 said, they knew the rules going in. Besides, maybe Triton made it up to him in some payout that we don't see? Maybe you could email the guys, and ask them. But don't be upset if they don't answer, or are short in their answers, like saying they knew what to expect.

I don't play the fantasy fishing game though, does a player have to pay to play? Is there some sort of income that FLW gets through its fantasy fishing game, besides advertising?

Finally, FLW is a business, and I am pretty sure they meet their targets, and to pay out the amount in fantasy games you are reporting, then I have to believe they are bringing in more in the fantasy side than the actual tournament side. This makes "me" wonder many things, mostly that the advertisers KNOW that the fantasy guys will spend more in total than the fisherment will spend.

Just my 2¢ worth.... and not worth that much to anyone else, I imagine...LOL

I don't think the anglers are upset at all. They got paid less because they decided that way. Fantasy fishing paid 1 million to attract world wide participation. I guarantee you they made lots of money on it. Most of the prize monies are paid by the sponsors, they keep the player advantage money, advertising money and I don't even want to think about what they did with my email address, your, and kazillions of other participant's addresses. Big lure catches big fish man. I just wish it would be less commercialized. All that butt kissing about Pittsburg, Ranger Yamaha Evinrude Abu Garcia Berkley BP make me almost puked. I really hated the way they shoved the national guard stuff down our throat.

The National Guard pays over 3 million a year to have them shove it down your throat...besides, what is wrong with the National Guard...they are serving and some are dying to keep you free as we speak.

My dad was the one that won the Million and i dont see how him winning that was a slap in the face to Hackney...Hackney knew going into the FWC that if he won that he wouldnt get the whole $1million,its his fault for not running a ranger and running a triton...i know if i had the money like those guys and fished the elites and tour that i would have a couple boats just for this occasion or would just run a ranger and not have to worry about anything, because i dont think triton or any other boat gives out the money like ranger does,or at least not as much

I guess I see it as without the fans there would be no FLW. These guys only get sponsors because we fisherman support the sport. JMO

Without the fans buying the products from the sponsors, Greg Hackney would have to work a 9-to-5 job and fish when he could. Sponsors foot the bill in the sport of competitive bass fishing. I can promise you Greg Hackney is not complaining today over the fact that Mr. Moberly is getting more money than him.

Do you think guys playing football or basketball at U of L or UK are bothered by the fact the the athletic depts. at these school arre making millions, and they get free tuition, room, board, books and a small bit of money, even though these schools are making millions for the University?

Also, you do realize tha most pro anglers money comes from their sponsors? None of them are making a living off their tournament winnings.

Thanks guys, I apprecaite your opinions. I really did not think of it the other way when I looked at it and the fisherman probably do appreciate the fans as much as anything. Its tricky I guess to look at every side of things and try to understand every side of things. Sponsors fans and the fisherman make it all work sometimes at first glance you dont see the whole picture.
