Re: Cove Lake...Lexington's best kept secret!!!

I have also caught some very nice bass from the park. Two years ago in a two hour period I caught over 25 and all were between 1 1/2 and 4 1/2 pounds. In the winter you can catch some very nice gills and crappie as well.

Jacobson Park is also stocked from time to time so its also quite possible that those fish are entering the fishing club and not the other way around!!!

Re: Cove Lake...Lexington's best kept secret!!!

I am not sure how they got in the lake but six or eight years ago I caught a 16 inch walleye and two small stockers out of Jacobson. I am sure they were not stocked in there since the lake is ten feet at best. I am guessing they came from the private lake across the way. An old man told me that the stocking truck dumped them in Jacobson park by accident but it still had me scratching my head.

We caught a hybrid over there at Jacobson one Winter/Spring on a jerkbait. It was small but it was a hybrid.

We do stock Walleye across the street from Jacobsen Park, and it is likely that they have traveled across to the next drink. That end of the lake is rocky and the walleye will at times congregate there (so I've been told) (I haven't had a lot of luck catching them).
I think there is a sign at the run off pond that says no fishing and like some have said.. Jacobsen can be great! I wouldn't spend a lot of time by the dam (roadway area) because it gets beat to death, but you can catch some good ones on the other side from a little boat!!
To everyone else wanting to fish the little mud hole... Well... Good luck.

Kinda what I thought to Don. Yea...I remember passing it a few times but was looking right at your place instead of left at the puddle, lol.

I used to live on Squires and I would go by that mud puddle all the time, and I'm going to be the one to call B.S. There might be a carp or two in there during high water like you all have said, and I would have to buy a coat and gloves to believe there are any bass in that puddle becuase hell would freeze over before that happened!

Interesting comments about Jacobson Park. I've noticed that it has a ramp. Has anyone fished it from a boat before and are you allowed to put in with an outboard, so long as you only use the trolling motor?

Re: Cove Lake...Lexington's best kept secret!!!

Jacobson Park can be accessed with a small boat or canoe. It's trolling motor only, I think...??? I've used a trolling motor out there before and have never been questioned but I've talked to people who have been questioned. Get out there during the prespawn and pitch a light jig. There have been some big bass caught in that lake. A shallow running crankbait or Rat L Trap catches fish out there as well.

It's been several years since I've fished Jacobson but this is how I use to catch a few out there... Good luck!

It's not bad in the fall either. We always used a trolling motor as well with no problems. All of our fish came from the timber on the golf course side.
