Just now when I was replying to MHall's thread about the crazy rain, my power went out, just as I was about to click on "Submit Reply." But my UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply, around $85 at Computer Outlet) kicked in, and even though my house was dark, I never lost my internet connection. A few minutes prior, it also kicked in due to "electrical noise" (probably a power surge). So now my power supply (around the same price as the UPS) didn't have to go through a power surge, followed by a sudden loss and restoration of power, meaning my UPS probably just payed for itself (again).

Especially if you live in the Louisville Metro area, I would STRONGLY recommend putting all your expensive electronics on a UPS. I'll have my entertainment system on one soon.

Yeah you can pick one up pretty cheap. I have purchased several from Tiger Direct.
