    Re: barren

Sounds like a pretty good morning. Maybe I need to go fishing with you so I can learn to catch summer time bass a little better.

    Re: barren

    hey all been waiting long?????????
thought the fising was fair on the worms deep cause or the hot weather
got slacked and got crazy went shallow with a rattle trap 1/2 ounce and benn killin them for 3 days streight now smaller traps been catchin smaller fish so stay big till the bite falls off then progress to deeper water stayin with 5 foot incraments till you find them again
if you catch 1 fish stay there till tour shure there is no more been catching 5 to 6 at a time in 1 spot
2 year ago when the water stayed so low bryar bushes grew in the shallows crank your trap accross the front edge first then cover all around it dont be afraid to hang it up
any shallow cove, creek or point with the old dead bryar bushes poking out the water (WITH A CREEK CHANNEL NEAR BY) has been holding fish
as the sun warms up move twards the creek channel ive been moving 5 feet at a time paralell with the creek bed start in 2 ft of water till bite drops off then move to 7 foot of water till bite drops off then move to 12 foot of water ECT...ECT.ECT
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU GUYS AN DONT BITE ME IN THE BUTT TOMMORROW

Which end of the lake, not looking for specifics, just a general idea. Thanks for the great report, that gives me hope! We had killed them doing the exact same thing at the end of May, but it seemed like when we went back in the first of June, they were gone?

    Thumbs up Re: barren

I just knew that was what you where going to tell us, I hadn,t been down there for two weeks but I'll been catching them shallow around that old grass all summer on Buzz baits. And after the sun gets up, about 7:30 we would go to a crank bait, bandit 300 Tiger, fishing 3 to 12 ft.. After about 9:00 we would more to the rock walls. Most of the time catching 5 to 10 fish with the best coming on the Buzz early.
I'll fished up the river all summer around Walnut. Has anyone got a report on Skaggs, caught fish there last year? I'll planning on fishing it this week one afternoon after work. Man I'll afraid after another year that old dead grass will be gone, but it was good last year and this year.
Thanks for the good report, been looking forward to reading it.

    Re: barren

    had big fish today
4 keepers and 1 slot fish
all fish came from skaggs past the 31e bridge even the good bag i caught wed morning
but i do have a good question???
why is it that 90% of the fish ive been catchin have blood on their sides, belly, back and tails beet up an bloody?
some one in the club suggested from chasing shad in the bryar bushes n brush where i been fishing
sounds logical but how true could this be???
team winning weight was 18 pound or so
my partner couldnt buy a keeper fish
BUT HE WAS A HELL OF A NET MAN
and a verry fun guy to fish with had a great time
its nice to catch fish but we had a nice day an had fun

    Re: barren

Made it up Skaggs yesterday about 5:30AM, caught one about 2 lbs on a buzz after fishing 10 min. off the dead grass out next to the channel. Try that for 30 min. with no more hits. Try the old lizard caught a 21/2 lber and my little buddy caught one on a small crank bait and his first fish on plastic, he was happy, ( lizard). I caught another on the lizard, the last two were in the channel. That cool Front moved through and we could not get a smell of a fish. Hit some points with no fish in the boat. Went to Beaver and started fishing a seconddairy point were i had caught fish before and the Air change. We caught 2, one on the lizard and the other on a crank bait. Had two more good hits I missed because I had my head, you know were. Had to pull out, I think it was about 10:30, my fishing buddy had to go to work.

Went to Beaver Creek this morning and started over around the bridge throwing a variety of plastics with not even a sniff. Put on a shad rap and went shallow around grass stick ups and caught alot of fish, mostly small but alot of fish. Then hooked something that drug me all over the lake, thought it might be a cat or maybe a big foul hooked carp. Turns out I foul hooked the biggest soft shell slider turtle Ive ever seen. Didnt know they got that big.

    Re: barren

well, i will have to be working for most of the upcomming tournaments, but here is what i have found. if you want to catch quality fish on brl right now. early am go extreem shallow for some bassmaster type action. you will need 40lb spider wire braid, or 20lb spider mono will work. i get about 15 percent more bites using the new double bladed buohyaa buzz. color is not making a diffrence, untill sun pops out. then go dark colors. during the day and night time, you will have to DOWNSIZE your plastics. i was using a 10berkley worm and not getting crap, but my SI unit was showing bass everywhere. finnaly decided small fish are better than none and put on a 6 inch finess worm (floating tail) with a make shift carolina rig. 1/4oz weight about 2 ft from hook. made huge diffrence. however, you will catch lots of small fish this way, you just have to weed them out until you get a big one. hope this helps yall, i dont care to share since i have to work several days and miss some tournaments, im sure it will change by the time i get back on the water.
