    Angry The Ugly American

    The Ugly American

Gripe 1 . I am an Indiana resident but love the state of Kentucky, especially Lake Barkley. The Kentucky DNR is definitely fisherman friendly.

. I would say this was best year of fishing I have had in 40 years. I fished a lot below Barkley and KY Dam.

This is the main gripe. Some mornings I would spend 45 minutes picking up trash and junk left by people before I could even fish. There are rumors that unless this improves, the fishing may be halted in these areas.

Gripe 2 We have been jug fisherman for the last 5-6 years. We switched to the Styrofoam noodles and they are great. The last 3-4 trips I have had to pick up jugs/noodles that have been lost by other fisherman.

Most were illegal, with no names or address on them. If you put them out, you need to pick them up.

It is easy to loose privileges by this neglect. The bad part is that this affects the fishermen who do what they are supposed to do and keep the area clean. It will affect everyone!

Sometimes we don't miss something until it is gone.

Good post! I'm not real fond of old trot lines and limb lines either...and by old I mean rusted hooks and weathered twine.

Good post I agree 100%. I say start hitting these Nimrods with 3 to 5 hundred dollar citations and let's see if it helps.

I agree! what is it about bank fisherman that they can alway carry stuff in but they can't never carry it out? Not just bank fisherman but the majority of people in general just don't care. This pic. below was taken from the bank of an oxbow lake behind the Indianapolis Museum of Art. At least half of the shore line looks like this.

Man that's terrible... I see it allot around bank access areas. I guess it speaks volumes about some fisherman and their ways.

Not ugly american, it is just plain hill billys!Iveeven seen where they leave litters of kittens and puppys in store parking lots, and boat launch ramps.I live on a pretty county high way, its always litterd, and NOT by tourists. They dump garbage along road ways, cans and bottles are thrown out the window.Shopping carts are always ledft right at the parking spot, and not all of these are older mouth breathers. Instead of preaching about religion in schools, teach manners and responsibilitys.

I agree. People are real slobs and it's disgusting.

I will say that it's definitely not just bank fisherman. Remember that a lot of what is thrown out of a boat is either - a) never seen because it sinks or b) ends up on shore and looks like it was discarded by someone fishing from the bank.

    Yep!

How they act in public is just an extention of how they live. No pride in any of their activities.

First creek I walked when I moved here looked great! Tree lined with lush green banks and then I went back in the Fall........I saw nasty trash dump sites, car parts, batteries, washers and dryers along with furniture! Man that changed my view of that area real quick.

Ugly American is right and believe me its not just fishermen. I just finished mowing my lawn. I live on a corner lot which is about 125 wide by 150 deep.. In that short space I picked up: one messy diaper; two takeout bags with empty hamburg & fries contaners soda cup, straws & napkins; and one coke can and one EMPTY vodka bottle. All of which has been thrown out of car windows since Monday evening when I picked up lawn trash to put in the garbage can for the regular Tuesday pick up day. Granted, today was a little worse then normal but a week never goes by that I don't have to pick up someone else'ss trash. Some people are just inconsiderate slobs.

I have to do the same and my yard is one of the middle homes on my street. I pick up broken glass, cigs and fast food bags!! I also go into the street to pick up stuff that will blow into my yard eventually.
