So we drive up to party and fish at Put-in Bay Ohio. Fished the evenings from the banks in town and at the state dock, mainly with nightcrawlers. Things we caught included catfish, blue gills, rock bass, round gobys, small mouth bass, white bass, and ...........ahhhhh............................
a SEA GULL.

Yep.....sure did.

Nope wasn't drinking........

About 7:30 pm, sun starting down, so I got out the good old chrome Zora Spook to see if the small mouth were up and eating. First 4 or 5 casts, I caught a couple smallies. Round about the 8th cast, I saw the sea gulls were circling over the lure as I walked it in. About 3 or 4 gulls checking it out. A couple casts later, a small mouth took a swat at the spook, missed it, 4 twitches of the lure later he tried again, and missed it again. Just then out of the corner of my eye I saw the gull in a death dive, wings folded, headed right for the lure. I froze the lure, hoping the gull would not be attracted to something sitting still..........to late Martha.......he ate the whole thing. Nailed it with a heck of a big splash, surfaced, started to try to fly away........then my drag started ripping out line. Rod tip pointing toward Mars, I started bringing in about 75 yards of line with the gull trashing about on the end of the line. Got him to the bank, a 5 foot rock wall I was standing on, and starting to lift him up. The lure had hooked him in the bill, as well as one of his webbed feet. Took some doing, but within about 3 miuntes he was flying away. I thought I was gonna have to take my fishing buddy to the emergency ward.....he was laughing so hard he stopped breathing. At that point, I decide to pack up the rods, and go hit the Beer Barrel Saloon. And believe me when I tell ya, the fishing storeis I told at the bar that night did not include birds!
