2005 mercury 90hp 2 stroke question

overheat alarm was coming on at low rpms in idle zones, when i would speed up it would go off. The tell tale is strong so i checked the thermostat. put it in a pan and boiled it in water and it never popped open. So i replaced it. Think this will solve the problem, but wanted some feedback.

Fixed, just a bad thermostat
