TO ALL:
Ish is 55, and used to get the same quite often with some fierce pain. Worst ever was a episode that took over 1.5 years to get rid of in my wrists. Here's what my doc told me, and it has worked great. 1 each 81 mg Bayer baby aspirin per day helps to reduce inflamation and prevent it in joints and muscles. (CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR FIRST). Second, when a flare up occurs, do the extremes to make it get well fast. Extremely hot tub of water, hot as you can stand soaking in it with out getting burnt for up to 5 minutes. Pull elbow out of the hot water, and immediately either emmerse in a tub of ice water, or immediately apply a big ice bag.
I have had instances where an ankle flared up so bad I couldn't walk on it, the above hot and cold water routine for about an hour, switching back and forth every 5-10 minutes, usually takes out the pain and inflamation with a single hour long session. Had problems with both wrists so bad I had to wrap them like a boxer does to go fishing. Again, a one hour session on each wrist did the trick, and the aspirin has done a great job keeping it away.
Worked for me, advice came to me from a sports physician.

Good luck on your speedy recovery and keep fishing
