Don, TorF was the first place I looked but it thought it was more telling that it was a hoax that I found eight different cities that it supposedly came from on Google.

That picture has been passed around for 6 or 7 years now and everytime it comes up with a different story.Fact is it was killed in West Texas and it didn't weigh 97 lbs.You can make anything look large by putting it closer to the camera (including fish),I'll bet any amount that the guy holding it couldn't hold 97 lbs on a stick like that.I don't remember all the details,but it was killed by some guys at a service station.
We hunted rattlesnakes and copperheads in Southwest Virginia and Eastern Ky along the state line when I was younger,I have a picture of a Timber Rattler that I held it's tail straight up with my arm over my head and it's head touched the ground when I was about 5'9" tall at the time it was close to 7' long,but never weighed anywhere near that much and it was the biggest Timber rattler I ever saw.
