    Re: Wohoo..............I have my MSDN Technet version of Windows 7 up and running

    Rats! I just bought a pc that would actually run it (enjoyably, anyway) and now the download's not available. Oh well... 10/22 is right around the corner.

    Your machine........5 years ago would run it, and probably run it pretty dang good.

    I have a 2.8ghz single core with 2gb ram, and it runs it JUST fine.

    Now, my 3 ghz dual core with 6GB does a hell of a lot better..........but the first box runs 7, and would NOT run vista,

    I can't wait to get it. I like some aspects of Vista, but the downsides of it fare outweight those - it can really bog down a pc. I should have just stuck with xp - but I hear the 7 is a huge improvement.

    You will LOVE it............everything about 7 is better.

    * FASTER.
    * Better memory management.
    * Crash protection with protected "Virtual Machines"
    * Works GREAT on older "GOOD" hardware
    * Homegroups.......if you have more than 1 computer and fileshares.........WOW.
    * Lots of other stuff........
    * Gadgetbar takes 75% less resources.
    * Toolbar icons..........those PAINFUL ones on the right can be disabled with a click.

    That machine was more than 5 years old. It was a 1.6 Ghz Sempron with 1GB ram, running W2K Pro. Yeah, it met the minimum requirements for 7, but not by much.

    I made the full plunge to Ubuntu Linux a week ago. I did a complete install and wiped Microsoft off forever. It boots up in about 20 seconds.

    I LOVE linux.......I use Centos and SUSE mostly........

    BUT most everything I do I CANNOT do on linux..........BUT I still have a media server running Centos 5.1.

    Also, my Router at home is a LINUX based router, with multiple nic cards, serving up different SUBNETS....That way, I can keep my kids isolated from my network........

    EVERYONE is safe .

    You're way ahead of me then. I just have the linux on a 4 year old laptop and I use it to surf the internet. I don't do anything with it other than that (especially since I keep my few files stored on an internet site and use google docs for word & excel stuff).
