now im no rocket scientist but i can almost guarentee that would be some of the nastiest fish you could ever possibly eat. has anyone ever seen this before or are people just un educated on what kind of creature they were taking home?? i have used them for bait for years and i couldnt imagine taking them home to eat. made my stomach turn just thinking about it.
Many years ago, I went down to Lake Cumberland with my son. There is a place there where a sink hole collects water and occasionally fish when the lake is up. I have gone there on occasion to get bait the easy way with a hand net.
My son and I pulled up there one day and this guy was barbecuing what he called BASS.
It was the shad I was looking for, to use for bait that night. I tried to tell him they were shad but he insisted they were bass. Strange thing was he had about 20 of them and none were big enough to have been kept under the regulations at the time. Plus there were more than the regs allowed and he knew it... but he was actually not breaking any rules...I finally gave up trying to explain it to him, and we went fishing.
It is possible they thought those were another kind of fish, OR, maybe they just know how to fix Shad so it tastes good.
