    Ultra light combo

Im on the market for a new ultra light combo reasonably priced any suggestions, normally I do not use an ultra light, but plan on crappie fishing from the shore when it gets to cold to sit on a boat.

    Re: Ultra light combo

My favorite Ultra Light Rig on my rack is a Shimano TX500a...it's a tiny little reel...has no bells and whistles...but can be had for about $25. It has a simple drag, it has anti-reverse but it's not instant, and that's about it. Tiny spool, but will hold enough 4# test. I've fished little bitty cranks on it in the creek for smallies and had a blast...so it will handle crappie just fine. (I landed about a 6# largemouth on it once...no problem if you let the drag do it's job.) Still reels smooth after a bunch of years...

I also have 3 of the BassPro Wally Marshall Crappie Combos that I've used for Crappie fishing...they are all 3 the same model reel, with different length rods...2 of the 3 are real good, but 1 never has reeled smooth. I should have taken it back, but haven't got around to it.

    Re: Ultra light combo

I just bought a Pflueger Trion reel and am very happy with it. I've been very happy with the Pflueger combos I've purchased in the past which is why I bought the Trion.

    Re: Ultra light combo

I have found the abu garcia cardnial reel and a good ole' ugly stick work well for me. I have several finwick and shimano rigs, but I usually pull out the simple stuff. I think the reel cost $30 buck and I bought the rod at wal-mart for next to nothing.
