Did anyone watch Ky Afield this past weekend and see the jugg fishin' segment? I never heard them say what size/style of hooks or line they were using...does anyone know what type/style of hook and line to use when jugg fishin'? Looks like a relaxing time on the water to me and thinkin I might like to try it out some time.

It depends on what size fish you wanna catch Tim!!! haha... You better have a good balance on the boat when you go to pull those things up you never know what will be on the end of that thing!! My grandpa and I go down to magnet and put in on the river and follow the jugs with the pontoon and have pulled up some rather large catfish! ...
Note that I mentioned "relaxing"...I ain't gonna jug fish the river, I know people do but I'm thinking more like a lake. Not knowing what's gonna be on the other end is half the fun.
I manage to get out and jug every once in a while on Wood Creek Lake here in London. I really didn't know anyone who had experience w/ it when I started so myself and a friend of mine started experiementing w/ different setups. For some reason on WCL we had significantly better success w/ using circle hooks w/ 30lb test on the noodles you can buy from wally world. Those always seemed to give us the best hook up rate. Im sure there's a "standard" that people use jugging, but that setup worked alot better for us.
On Saturday I made my first trip on the Ohio River. I set out jugs baited with shrimp and 2/0 circle hooks. I caught 5 catfish in about an hour using about a dozen jugs. One fish was pushing 12 pounds all the others were 2 to 4 pounds. Two of the small fish swallowed the hooks.
I'm pretty sure on the first jugging video from a couple years back the guys said they were using 9/0 circle hooks. I'm not sure about going that big but 2/0 seemed a bit small.
Good grief!! I read this post and decided to go back through my all my KY afield DVR recordings and found this episode was erased.....Boy my kids and wife have some answering to do. Not sure which ones did it because there was soap opera's and disney shows on there. Anbody wanna bet all I hear is......It wasn't me !!! Lol God Bless em.
I think they replay the show on Monday or Tuesday nights.I went when I was a kid with my uncle. We went in a lilly pad covered creek off of Green river and I was scared to death. We caught some monster flatheads and a couple of gars.My uncles buddy almost lost a finger pulling in a gar about 5 foot long.Blood was all over the boat and I just wanted to get back to dry land.I never went back to that place and never will !!!![]()
Eagle claw makes a trot line hook kit. These are about 2-3/o hooks.
I like to use them on 130 lb jug fishing line. All can be bought from Wal-mart. I have been taking my son out jug fishing and he has fallen in love with it.. We can set out some jugs and do some bass fishing while we're waiting on the catfish to bite.
My intent is to eat the catfish if i catch it (Unless it's huge) so I don't mind if they swallow the hook. If they swallow it and I want to release them, I take great care in cutting the line ot clippng the hook to try and make sure the fish survives.
Jug fishing is Fuuuuuuuunn.
Good luck!
While on the subject of jugg fishing and being lazy, i have started doing a little catfishing on the creek where i live (stoner creek, because its five feet from my back porch) when i don't feel like going out bass fishing. I don't have much experience catfishing and i have been deadlining with chicken livers and catching alot of mud cats. Are there any tips, baits, techniques, you all could give me to maybe catch some different species or does it just happen to be whats feeding?
