on Cumberland I put a Zoom smoke fat boy grub on the back of a midnight special, caught a 14" smallmouth on the 2nd cast and through for an hour with out another bight lol, I think what ever works

Do any of you guys use trailers on your night blades? I used to never do it preferring a "naked" blade with a skirt only because I felt that when you put a pork trailer or otherwise it changed the fall and flutter of the blade. But my last time out a night a few weekends ago I had one of those urges to do the mega-crawfish blade and I tipped it with a paca chunk. They ate it up! Now I am wondering if that trailer made that much difference or if they were just biting good that night. The only negative I had using the paca chunks is they kept biting off the pinchers so I went through better than a pack of them. Still fun and I can' wait to try again...

yea i think it helps to throw a trailer but when you use a trailer it also increases the need for a trailer hook or you will miss a lot of strikes.
I always use a Zoom Swimming chunk at night on my SWL spinnerbaits, for a few reasons. There is a tips and discussion about this subject going on at another board http://www.fishinsites.com/forum/tip...s-for-success/ has some good tips to think about.Do any of you guys use trailers on your night blades? I usually have the best luck with a big, bulky trailer earlier in the year (before the end of May). After that, I have better luck with no trailer at night. I almost always start off with a trailer, and if that is not working I will take it off. Last year, I couldn't get a hit on a spinner bait with a trailer here after June at night. One night I was fishin a night tournament, and fished for hours with only one fish - using a various trailers. I finally took it off, and had a limit within the hour.
I remember that from days past - not doing as well with a trailer. I do a "slow roll" type of retrieve with my blades at night and when you pull up and then let the blade flutter down the speed of the drop and the pitch of the blade turning is key. If it drops too slowly the blade doesn't turn at the right pitch or can stop spinning which messes up the action and attraction completely. I did paca chunks last time and it didn't seem to affect the pitch like I had remembered. Plus on KY I always seem to get a lot of bumps and taps with no hook ups and to this day I wonder what the heck is whackin at my blade and not hooking up. With the chunks on the hook I had less of the mystery whacks and more hook ups so I am thinking it gave them more of a target where the hook was and/or they hit and held it better with the trailer being on there. Or some nights they just take lures more agressively and that night may have been one of those nights. I guess the moral of the story is that you got to change up if what your doing isnt' working. I will be working more on these theories this weekend so I can report some findings next week...

I remember doing pork but I would always cut it down to cut back some of the bulk of the trailer...
