New Cash for Clunkers... will you???

OK, OK, we all took shots at the cash for clunkers... I personally felt it should have been American only, i.e. the final net profits of the company should end up in America, and have taxes assesed. Just my take...

Now there were a bunch of other takes... e.g. free stuff from the government/redisbursal of wealth, etc...

Now another one is apparently coming, and I have to admit, needing some of the things mentioned makes me wonder if I will take advantage....

Here's the link, and how many of you will consider taking advantage of this program??

    http://www.comcast.net/finance/forwh...unkersleftoff/

I noticed a lot of the commenters were saying they would definately take advantage of this program.

So how about it everyone... does this program change your thinking in anyway??

    Tight lines,

    HDF

Government has NO place in these BS programs...........

    GOOD GOD.......where does it end.

THE amount of carbon savings from the approximate 1 million cars sold under cash for clunkers is less than 1 /Thousandth of a PERCENT.

There are about 600 MILLION vehicles in the world.......about 230 MILLION in the US.

    http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2001/...Stasenko.shtml
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passeng..._United_States

Transportation makes up about 14% of TOTAL greenhouse gas emissions worldwide....I think that is HIGH........but hey......what do I know.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_gas

    14% / 600,000,000 = 2.333333 e - 10

So each vehicle makes up about .00000000023 Percent of the Emissions....

Way to GO Obama.....you effectively WASTED a few BILLION dollars, did NOTHING for the economy, and ZERO for Greenhouse Gas Emissions......

    Morons are running our country.........YES.........MORONS.

The MORONS flying around the country to town hall meetings have generated more greenhouse gas than all the savings for 10 YEARS from the cash for clunkers program.

    Later,

    Geo

LOL! Heck no...up to $200 for some units? I would have to have a real bad clunker to do this and I mean bad. Whats a new home ac unit cost $1500? 2k? 4k?

Probably not. I do need a refrigerator, but will probably go craigslist or the newspaper and take advantage of all those cheap ones suddenly on the market because of the program.

Not sure why these rebate programs are being seen as a revolution from the Obama administration. Government rebate programs have been around since the 70's. The Carter administration gave the economy a shot in the arm with them back then. They helped, but didn't do the trick. Reagan's federal government shrinkage, tax cuts, and so called 'supply side' economics is what turned things around.

    DH,

Not familiar with Carter's similar plans. But I need a new stove and oven, a new dishwasher, and a new washer and dryer, not to mention my central heat and air unit is very old and not working as properly as it should.

No, I did not just ignore my house...LOL... sounds like it though, huh? We bought a house a bit back that needed all those things addressed. They work, but not properly. In fact the oven and stove insert are over 25 years old, and in the oven we have had to hang a thermometer, and constantly monitor any cooking we do, adjusting the heat. Sometimes 250 will get over 500 degrees, other times it is only 350 degrees. We really need to replace that one; lots of effort to just to bake a frozen pizza...LOL

So, am I bad person for taking advantage of this since I need new appliances?? I am interested in your opinions, but may not take your advice. I haven't yet decided, but I do feel a huge amount of my tax dollars should have been left for my own decision on how to spend them.

    tight lines,

My heat pump died in early Spring so I already have a new one. I don't need a new 'fridge but may need a new icemaker pretty soon; washer/dryer are energy savers and fairly new. Dishwasher is energy saver but is beginning to grunt and groan; it has to last until its last groan.

I do have a clunker vacuum cleaner and would like to have a new one with an operator already attached to the handle. As soon as they give some cash for clunker toasters and coffee pots, I'll give it some serious thought and a new energy efficient can opener would be nice.

I'll tell you later about Sweetie Pie's surprise $46.21 stimulus check that he received a couple of weeks ago. It was a real "keeper."

A bad person? No, but what gets me in any cash for clunkers plan is the people who would trade in vehicles that might not be able to pay. Could this be another Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae situation? How much money did we already give the automakers? Wasn't this clunker program funded again by us tax payers? That's what bothers me.

Wonder when they are gonna have a program to trade in the old 2 stroke outboards?

I agree with you 100%! But at the same time I'm starting to second guess this entire American verses foriegn made stuff. I know that for quite sometime "American" auto's have been made with parts produced over seas and only assembled here in the U.S., so now I ask myself just how much difference is there by being loyal and true to my American auto workers verses going and buying a "foriegn" vehicle? I have ALWAYS owned "American"...I've always been a Chevy guy. Maybe the new terms we should use are "domestic" and "import"...I guess a Chevy could be considered an import if it entered our country by plane or by boat, couldn't it? I'm pretty dag gone sure I'll never own a Toyota or Nissan or any of those other "imports". I'm not in the market to buy a newer vehicle but as far as I'm concerned Chevrolet is still making vehicles that I'd like to own.

I guess to me that as far as the auto industry is concerned it sure does seem like a global market place for sure in my opinion.
