We've had a flea battle the past 2 years,we have alot of animals and it's expensive to Frontline all at once (5 dogs and 6 cats).You can use Dawn to give your pet a bath,it kills fleas,but dries the dogs skin out so you need to use oil or a conditioner also,Frontline works,but donot give a bath to the dog or cat for 2 days before or after you use it.
Borax powder will kill eggs and larva stage fleas in the carpet,but takes longer on adults.
Most flea bombs only kill adults,regular vacuuming and disposal in a tied garbage bag helps alot too.The best approach is a combination of all methods in close proximatey,because if you only treat the dog there are still fleas in the house or kennel,there are sprays made for outside use also.
I found an online pet supply that was cheaper for frontline than anywhere else,but don't have the link handy.The vet told me that if your dog has flea allergy (digs after a bite a bunch) Benadry in small daily doses will help.
