Mark, I apoligize--you are absolutely right that I employed a double standard. I have been informed by one of my Moderator Mentors that it is not slamming to call a public figure VOMIT but it is inapproriate for me to make a very indirect reference to something that may or MAY NOT BE sexual. I admit that my big mistake was forgetting that most people have never been on Okinawa and don't know just how wide spread and troublesome "the crabs" could be even for people that never interact with the local populace.

Again, I do apoligize and I will try to not let it happen again.

I agree with Mhall...I read into the same way he did. So what, so that's where my mind goes...I'm a man, so sue me!

This is 100% the honest truth!

FYI - Grumpy's post didn't spoil my Pinto Beans none...it is what it is...right or wrong I read it how I read it and the rest is history.

P.S. - Thanks Grumpy for being a moderator, and thanks to the other mod's for doing what they do...I wouldn't have your jobs for all the love nor money in the world.

Scrawl I read on a bathroom wall at the enlisted men's club on Coronado Island:

Please don't throw your toothpicks in the toilet. The crabs here can pole vault.

I remember that night well to a point, I spent the night in the long bar hotel for...uh unruly behavior and allegedly throwing several beer bottles at a group of Marines. The only reason I'm here to type this today is the Shore Patrol got me before the Marines did. The young lady I was with that evening never spoke to me again. Women are SO unreasonable.

BTW, many public figures are in fact vomit.

A friend who frequents this baord called me and reminded me that most Americans think of crabs as being sexually transmitted (if that is the right word) but those of us that have been overseas, especially in the Orient and South East Asia, know that crabs get on you in many places and from many sources, only one of which may be sexual. Crabs were so prevalent on Okinawa that, when I was there in the late '50s, they used to issue cans of spray DDT in the Supplyroom, even to the married people living in family quarters. All the showers in the barracks had cans of DDT handy for use before showering.

Whether you believe it or not, I really wasn't making a sexual inference in the post.

That's OK Mark. Actually, because of this, I learned a valuable lesson about how to moderate or more to the point about how NOT TO moderate.

Just a little bit of history. Humans first got crabs from....GORILLAS, and not through sexual contact. Humans once ate gorillas and also slept in gorilla nests. Crabs live on the hair of the lower part of the human body, including the legs, but can also live on underarm hair. People can also carry them in the seams of their clothing where they lay their eggs. In WWI soldiers got crabs because they were all over people and things in countries where they were sent. Crabs were so prevalent they could be seen crawling on seams and in and out of clothing. It was about as bad in WWII but better treatments/control had been developed although, by today's standards, they would be considered hazardous. A person doesn't have to have body contact to get crabs although, at this point in time, it's the most common means. While in today's society crabs are primarily spread through intimate body contact, people riding buses, trains, and streetcars still get crabs that were left on seats where their hosts sat. Crabs can live only about 24 hours off the human body.

Here's to all the "Old Soldiers" who had to fight in wars and endure crabs. SALUTE!

Thanks for the SALUTE, Bug, I appreciate that and I am sure many others do too.

Also, thanks for the corroborative information. Except for the Gorilla part, I can confirm all of it from first hand experience. In Viet Nam, crabs were the least of our worries about things that crawl on, in and around you (and I am not counting enemy soldiers). If it crawled on its belly or had more than four legs, there were too many different kinds to count and many of them were poisonious.
