Fished Monroe today 8/27 and well...once again didn't do worth a nickel. Caught 2 short bass on t-rigged plastics 10 ft deep......everytime i fish spring, summer and fall don't have much luck. Surface temp at 4pm 86 degrees, i believe it is at summer pool. And did i mention hot today! I caught both fish near hardin ridge....anybody having any luck on Monroe? It's funny because the spots i have picked out when i fish this lake look perfect and feel perfect...but nothing??Any words of wisdom fellas??

If water temps are 86 you probably would have a lot better luck at night.

I feel your pain bro. My buddies and I nickname the lake Monothingroe. The lake have always been tough for me. The only good year was 05 maybe, when the grass were up nice and good. The problem with those look and feel perfect spots is that everybody else have the same thought too. I think the day I figure out Monothingroe I will go pro. Probably never happen. Monroe fishing is fine. I fished there last weekend and had 4 nice keepers Saturday and 3 on Sunday. There was a tournament up there 2 weeks ago and took 22 lbs to win. There is another one there this weekend and I am guessing it is going to take 18lbs to win. They are still dropping the lake and it wont be at pool until late Sunday. The falling water will make it tougher but they are still catchable
Sounds like you, me and slowride get together and you can show us a few things. How about it?![]()
I have a tournament up there this weekend. I will let you know how things work out. I am finished up there after this weekend so may be able to help you out

I fish Monroe a lot, and agree that there is the possibility of having big weights. However, if you look at those tourney results there are usually 1-2 teams that find the fish and have those weights. After that the weights and # of fish caught drops off dramatically. Monroe is a TOUGH lake to catch keepers (and sometimes shorts), especially if you are someone who doesn't get to fish it much. i have caught some real nice bags there, and sometimes really figure them out, but most of the time it is pretty tough. If we took a poll I know that most people would say that they agree with me and the others on this thread! I would like to hear other opinions....maybe I'm crazy!?!?!?!
Ya i have noticed a pattern from the anglers that do well on monroe. It beats me up though, anyway if i run across any top secret hidden honey holes i'll let u guys know. Im going to try and fish it several times this fall. (if nothing else the lake is gorgeous in the fall)
What pattern have you noticed slowride.....I have always done better on the slowside....but this year was tough for me there![]()
I was referring more to anglers than a style of fishing. I sensed a pattern about it seems like its always certain guys that do well on monroe. I also agree with the slow side being better for fishing. I've had some decent days, but never anything constituent, however i did crappie fish it this spring and caught over a 100![]()
Ahhhh...I see. I agree, although I fished the USA Bassin circuit there this year and besides the team that won the division, it seemed that there were always different guys at the top. We usually had about 25-30 boats and most of the tourneys only 2-5 boats that had limits. Frustrating...especially when you know the lake and fish it quite a bit!!!! The floods didn't help...IMO. Spreads the fish out, then doesn't allow the grass and pads to grow!
