    Patoka Grass

    Hey.....

I'm making a trip up there again Tuesday Night..........Taking a guy I work with and his son.....

The boy has never been in a bassboat, so I'm going to do some running. I planned on putting in at Osborne and maybe running up to Lick Fork because I LOVE the GRASS up there.

    Question.....

I know of a couple places up around Little Patoka, and I even thought about trying to get into the quarry.......

First....Anyone been in the quarry lately.......can I get in there....

Next....Outside of Lick fork and Little Patoka, and the grass along the riprap, anyone know if grass off the main lake that has been productive......How about Painters??

    Thanks,

    Geo

With the high water level quarry is accessible - but has been heavily fished lately.

Some success with deep grass out by the old foundation near Jackson ramp.

Deep grass near the little island by Newton Stewart can be good if the pleasure boaters aren't too thick.

There is plenty of grass - it's just trying to find the grass where the hungry fish are is the problem!

Good luck - post a report...

    Thanks, I will.

so you'd not even deal with the quarry......I like the area, but if it is getting hammered, maybe I wont.

I know the Newton Stewart area you're talkin about......maybe with the lower temps, the boateres will not be there........

Not fam with the Jackson Ramp foundations........going to get my map out and check though.

    Thanks,

    Geo

Quarry might not be too bad on a Tuesday evening - but on the weekends it has been pounded. Two weeks ago there were 8 bass boats, 3 pontoons, and a ski boat with a pair of personal WC's - that was just in the side we were trying to fish - too much action for the quiet fishing that area requires.

Allen Creek and Sycamore Creek both could be good on a week night, without fighting the pleasure boat navy - I've seen lots of balls of shad in those areas.

i reall wish jackasses in pontoons and jet skis would stay out of places like that...not like they dont have the whole rest of the lake. i really enjoy when they come zipping by you and ask if the fish are biting.

Was on the lake this evening and caught my first two yellow bass from there. Got mixed feelings about them.

    Are they stocking them...........

Yellows are funner than HECK to catch.............I wore them out a couple weeks ago at KY lake.

    HUNDREDS at a time.

Geo, I sent an email to the district biologist asking him that. I would think not but will post when I get his answer.

No doubt they would help with the shad population.

Well that was fast. Got a reply that said they had been seeing them for about 3 years and have no idea how they got in there. Also said they had stocked 8.5 million more walleye fry this year.

If you are going out of Osborne, what about going up river (left) and fishing around the island and up through there. The points are flats and have grass. The two cuts and the creek up from the island, are good places. I personally like the creek. Caught good bass through there this year. That creek is a good place for someone with a bobber and live bait.
