    Taxed Enough Already

I went to my first Tea Party last night. An article in the E-town News-Enterprise said that the Hardin County Tea Party Patriots have one the first Tuesday of each month at 7 PM in the Nolin RECC Building on Ring Road. So I went.

The Welcoming speaker stressed that the group, which started in April, WAS NON-PARTISAN and included Democrats, Republicans and anyone else that cared to join.

It was very interesting. State Representative Tim Moore (26th District) was the guest speaker. He gave an historical overview of “Taxation without Represention” from the reasons for the first Tea Party in Boston to today.

Something I didn’t know, was that the original Constitution prohibited Income Taxes and had to be amended (16th Amendment) to allow it in 1913, which except for a brief period during the Civil War was the first time. He then went into how it has grown to what Obama is proposing now. He also pointed out, and showed with examples, that enactment of high income taxes always leads to lower revenues because the high earners, either stop earning money or find ways to avoid the taxes. Conversely, when the income tax rates have been lowered, tax revenues have increased. i.e. Under Reagan and Bush. He spoke for about 30 minutes, before taking questions for about 30 minutes, but throughout the evening he, and others, stressed the need for grass roots involvement in writing letters, sending emails, making telephone calls and VISITING Congressmen, Senators and the President.

Moore said something else that really hit me between the eyes: the media and everyone are talking about the projected DEFICIT for the next ten years being somewhere between Nine and Eleven TRILLION DOLLORS, but he pointed out that the UNFUNDED REQUIREMENTS JUST for Social Security, Medicare and Medicade (and not counting the military and other parts of the government) is more than another 64 TRILLION DOLLORS. He left no doubt that our country is already broke, in more ways than financially.

For more information about this group, and much more, including about the national Tea Party Express, which will visit Louisville on September 5th on its way to Washington, go to their website at:

I've never been to one of these tea parties, nor do I know anyone that has, besides you, and you and I don't really know each other persay. Anyway, what sort of vibe do these tea parties have, are they like rallies or protests? I mean besides some of things brought up making your blood pressure go off the charts do things tend to get heated or what?

Chub, from what I have seen on TV and in the papers, these groups are not into "rabel rousing", they are just trying to get more people to stand up and be counted and to write letters and email their Congressmen, Senators and the President. That was definately the case last night. Altough the speaker got several rounds of applause and a standing overation at the end, the goup of about 175 or so were very well behaved. My blood pressure did go up when Moore started talking about the 64 Trillion in unfunded requirements. Talk about the media lieing by omission, you just don't hear about that and we should be thinking AND DOING SOMETHING about it.

Here's my excuse for not attending. After paying all my taxes, I didn't have the gas money for a trip to Hardin County.

I'm like 98% of the population of the U.S.A. I'll gripe and groan and wonder why somebody besides me isn't doing something to help me.

I did write my first donation check to a local politician this past week and I attended Baron Hill's town hall meeting at I.U.S. the other day. I never had a chance to get inside and was one of the crowd outside.

I hope we as a country can right some wrongs in the 2010 elections.

Sorry but there is good and bad in both parties. We talk about these folks not working to gether in DC and then we go vote a streight ticket! We need to vote OUT the bad ones and vote for whom we think is better no matter which party. We all need to do this to weed out the mess. Boath parties have good and bad. We all know this.

Like I posted two above your post I agree it's not one sided, I realize that. America needs to send a message and Poopcan all of them and start over. May not be any better but at least it would send a strong message.
