Re: Canoe/Row Boat fishing at Mammoth Cave Park?

Dennison Ferry, Green river Ferry, and Houchens ferry are the launch points in Mammoth cave park. A nice 7 or 8 mile float is to go from Dennison to Green river ferry and there are outfitters who will drop you off and you can float down to your vehicle at Green river ferry. The best float is from Munfordville down to the park but it is a long float -- 21 miles from Munfordville to Dennison. But the river below Munfordville is natural with riffles and better flow and several great springs. When you get into the park you hit the pool created by the dam at Brownsville and for canoeing I don't prefer the big slow water on a river. Another nice float is from 31E at Rio to Munfordville which is around 11 miles. Again there is an outfitter (or was last year) that for 20 bucks will drop you off at Rio for the float back to Munfordville.

I have only casually fished the Green in the several canoes trips I have done on her. I always have had a wife and/or kids who don't have much patience for going slow to fish. But it is full of spotted bass and there are muskies and walleyes but the only time I have heard anyone doing any good for them is in the winter in the springs. But the green is a beautiful stream and I am sure you will enjoy her...

All those spots suggested are great floats but without a doubt the fishing is best before you ever get to the park or Dennisons Ferry. Green isnt a strong walleye river but excellent for Muskie but they are better fished for in the winter when they congregate around springs and blue holes. Theres a spot you can get on Green near Lynn Camp Creek in Linwood, near the Hart/Larue County line. The small mouth, rockbass, drum, and catfishin is excellent on Green as well. The stretches of rocky banks down Green are where you need to fish.
