Lake Fork is an incredible lake. Any survey that tries to give a number on how many 7+ bass are caught there in any amount of time would have to be way low because a 7 isnt a big deal there at all. Not many would bother to report it. I caught six or seven 7lb+ there in the two 5 day trips Ive made there without a guide or anything (not tooting my own horn, my point is about the quality of the fishery). And with the pressure turning to falcon, choke, and amistad, Fork will improve some.In the latest Bass Times i was reading there was an article about a study done on Lake Fork. If you've ever had any doubts about that lake you can put them at rest. Since 2003 their have been 10,000 LM bass recorded that weighed over 7 lbs!........WOWI thought it was worth posting. Now about the post a while back Ken lake or Lake fork...I love Ken Lake but i think i would be worth looking into to.
Its just amazing to see a thousand boats in a little creek, bumper to bumper and everybody catching bass.
But Like Dave said, you cant really compare a big bass at fork to one at Kentucky Lake. I feel much better about catching a 7lb plus here than I do at Fork. To do that here consistently it takes doing a lot of homework and putting in a lot of hours.
Big bass are wonderful! I've caught the 5 biggest bass of my lifetime in the last 3 years and all down in and around lake Okeechobee.
I fished Guntersville for the first time in May and can tell you it has big bass in it as well and not Florida strain. I did not catch many but 3lbs was the average and 5lbs is not a big fish on that lake.
All that said, fishing to me is part art and I think highly of the art down on KYL and Barkley. For one thing, I really like the diversity of the fishing. I like fishing flats and shallows then throwing the c-rig out deeper. Different types of rock, different sloped banks and sometimes vegitation. I don't see the Florida lakes or Lake Guntersville as having as much diversity. Throw in the 3 three pound smallies I had down on KYL a few weeks ago and that really adds to the diversity.
I'm sure Lake Fork is worth a visit and can tell you Guntersville certainly is but consider Barkley my home lake (though it is 270 miles away).
