He may very well have changed the speech, but I found it very foolish that there was such a large public outcry.

It was a simple, short speech to schoolchildren. The fact that people made such fools of themselves over this just show that we live in a time and a culture where everyone has to be offended or opposed to everything that goes on.

I said it before the speech and I stick to it now that I heard it. There was no reason to make a big deal about a president speaking to schools.

(Maybe it just seems I'm in the middle, but I am very, very hard to the right on most issues - especially those dealing with government, taxation and fiscal policy. I do have some left leaning opinions on some social issues, but in general I am on the right)
We can chalk it up to agreeing to disagree. I don't call the act of parenting foolish...it's our decision as parents to raise our kids the way we see fit not the schools decision. I feel more people should be active in theirs kids lives and that includes what happens at schools.

I do find it ironic that teachers and educators always say parents should be more involved and when they do we get labeled as foolish.

If the guy was an upstanding person I would not have a problem with him speaking to my kids but he is the bottom of the barrel and I'm being nice.

Nobody's saying to not get involved or don't parent, but I just don't see why this was such a big issue or why so many people wanted to get involved this time.

Heck, I wouldn't be opposed to all presidents speaking every year to students for 15 minutes. I think it's an educational opportunity for the students.

In other words, I just don't see how this was such a big deal.

I think Jim mentioned something that was spot on in an earlier post and it boils down to not trusting this guy. His character is flawed beyond belief. He lies about anything to get out of a jam and takes no responsibility for anything. If he was a neighbor of mine with past terrorists associations I would not talk to him...that's what I think of him.

He has no qualifications to be the Pres. and his past associations and administration appointments prove my point. He is a puppet and was used by the Lib party to gain power. Hillary would not have secured the black vote as the "fool" did....that is my opinion of course.

I don't have the luxury of waiting to see how things are going to turn out when making choices on parenting. I go with what I know based on my experience, ignorance, feeling, advice or whatever.

Agree with you! The POTUS is supposed to be a leader, leaders talk to their people to set goals, set responsibilities, and to provide a common and shared desired end state.

If telling kids they need to be responsible, learn, and be productive citizens is a "learning experience", then please tell me what their parents have been teaching them at home?

I agree let him START leading and quit these speeches and public appearances....so far his leadership skills are zilch! Wonder what that little speech cost the tax payers? Anyone know?

Re: Obama's speech to students text

The scoffing by Dimocrats and left biased 'news' reporters at "all the fuss" made by parents over Mr. Obama's speech to kids is hypocrisy.

Greta Van Sustern pointed out last night that when the first Bush made a similar speech to school kids in 1991, the Democrat controlled congress launched a GAO investigation complete with public hearings over the 27 thousand dollars it cost the Dept of Education to set it up. They saw the speech as a ploy by Mr. Bush to shine his own political apple at taxpayer expense during lean economic times and questioned whether it was legal. The Washington Post newspaper ripped Mr. Bush about it.

Anybody figger there'll be a GAO investigation into the cost of Mr. Obama's speech during these uh...lean economic times? I guarantee it cost considerably more than 27k. Want to bet what slant the Washington Times gives the speech?

What do you make of it Slipped? For gosh sakes don't be stupid enough to make a federal case out of such a good deed by our President, right?

Know1, you've clearly got the openest mind and of course the keenest insight on the board, bad then but good now? Wait a sec, didn't you say you were from Minnesota? If so never mind, an opinion from a state who voted to have Al Franken represent them in Washington doesn't count.

Yep saw that when Bush Sr did his speech the DOE could not and would not endorse it but when this "fool" does it they jump on board the Liberal bus like little school kids going to the zoo.

Another reason why I don't trust this idiot....
