When you think about 9-11 does the name Saddam even pop into your head because it sure doesn't mine, the name that pops into my head is Bin Laden and then the fact he is still free/alive.

And besides anyway the post title is "What Happened to the unity after 9/11" and I gave my opinion, so I'm not going to sidetrack DJD's post arguing with you about Iraq. If you start a Iraq this,that....... post I will be more than happy to share my thoughts.
Well your the one that pointed at Bush as being the problem for the divide so don't be suprised that some people disagree. We will never ever agree on that.
I suppose you think that if we had got Bin Laden and killed him or put him on trial this would all have been over. Sure we would have been happy about it but for how long? Would our worries have been quelled? What were we going to do after that? Were we going to wait for the next attack then go get whomever the next Bin Laden is at that time? Meanwhile the terrorist organization goes on killing innocent americans. 3000 americans for 20 terrorists (19 hijackers and Bin Laden) bet the terrorists would like that. It should be very obvious that there were alot of people in these organizations that wanted to do us harm besides Bin Laden. These organizations are backed by anti-american governments and others who want to harm us but want to avoid reprucussions. And in my opinion they should all pay no matter how long it takes.

Okay I'm going to break this down for you as simple as I can.

DJD started the thread by asking "What Happened to the unity after 9/11"

I gave my opinion that the Iraq war (a very unpopular war whether you want to admit it or not) started by Bush, yes started by Bush who tried to tie the attacks on 9/11 to Iraq and Saddam but never really did it divided the "unity after 9/11" that DJD was asking about.

And also gave my opinion that had we just focused on Bin Laden and captured/killed him there would have been a victory mentality that would have "united" us more instead of people even talking abou the Iraq war. Would of the "unity" worn off by now? I don't know but I bet it would have lasted longer than it did with the Iraq war in the equation.

Never said we would be safe/safer if we got rid of Bin Laden or hadn't got Saddam just giving my opinion about "What Happened to the unity after 9/11"

What's you opinion about DJD's question "What Happened to the unity after 9/11"? Just we have short attention spans.

Re: What Happened to the unity after 9/11

Ok let me make this real simple for you as well and give you my opinion as to what happened to the "unity".
We were attacked by terrorists and those who support terrorists. Some of us want terrorists and their supporters to pay for this act and we will to do whatever it takes to prevent this from happening again. And to show that these people did not die without showing us of what we had to lose and that others are out to destroy it. Others feel the same but lack the backbone to go the extra mile to get the job done to protect what we have. That's where the short attention span comes in and where the "unity" runs out of steam. I don't need to have my country get attacked again to stay focused on what needs to be done.
So if someone says they and whomever are gonna do something to my family I don't need to wait for them to do it before I take steps to prevent it from happening. Especially if it I had let my gaurd down before and my family were the victims of my ignoring the threat.
I know your opinion. I just happen to disagree with it. See that's what Americans do. They sit around and pick on each other until someone sticks their nose in and trys to take advantage of it. So as much as we agree to disagree let no one be confused that if someone had you down I would be there to throw down with ya and I suspect vice versa. That's what the terrorists cannot understand. So our differences and ability to voice our opinions does build a bond, however invisible it may seem.

I just think it's what we Americans do. We don't mess with the other guy till he messes with us first. If the bad guys aren't pushing us to a fight, then we practice on each other, by turning our attention to our internal matters.

Crisis creates hero's, it brings it out in people who set aside their day to day fears and concerns. When the crisis passes, we go back to tending to the every day things that make us uncomfortable.

I think its true politicans do create some of the animosity, as they set aside what's best for all, and try to look out only for their own state or own special interest. But in a way, that's what we expect a state elected official to do, look out for us locally. That causes friction when it runs against what's best for another state. Isn't that what our whole process is about? Controlled friction? Just wish sometimes the word "controlled" would be exercised in the way of personal discipline, and responsiblity.

Last example. We sit here on our key boards and get real firm, sarcastic, and sometimes down right rude with each other. But if anyone of us saw another guys boat go down, we'd be the first one there to lend a helping hand. I swear to myself about one of my neighbors on a daily basis, but if his house goes up in flames some night, I'll be the first guy thru the door to make sure he and his family get out.(once he's outside I'll tell him I'm tired of his loud music)

Crisis creates heros, because it wakes up the values sleeping inside each one of us. Crisis is a wake up call heros hear.
