Nobody has been doing any good this year. We see lots of Shad but I'm not seeing all those chubs and Darter minnows I was seeing down there last year, just mostly shad.
i have had more bad days than good this year for sure. but, i found a hole saturday that is plum full of shad and some cats and hybrids are there as well. i caught one that went 28 and my buddy caught one that went 41 so it seemed to be picking up a little.
but mark the thing that worries me about those darter's is that ive learned from an old timer is that the sauger use that as a main forage. i dont wanna have another poor year for sauger fishin so i hope it gets better. ive almost got my motor re built and im ready to go at it with a vengence. LOL
JWF, if you need some bait i would be glad to let ya know where the place was we were at. its not too far from the new albany ramp. in the past ive noticed they show up in that area and stay there for a while. some of those shad in that hole are huge.
Thanks Sir I am gonna try to go out tomorrow for a bit then we are headed to our camp at Nolin,we haven't been down there since July 12th ...My Mother in -law had 4 surgeries in July and the our house got flooded on Aug 3rd so all of our weekends have been busy . I am off during the day and if anyones wants to go next week on the Ohio respond and I will love to take someone .It's hard to find someone to fish during the week ...
I work @ night and fish during the day WOOO HOO
Just a thought. Nolin has a bunch of shad and I never have mucc trouble getting them there under a light at night. Couldn't he get some at Nolin to us as bait at McAlpine? Even if dead and frozen, wouldn't they work?
I usually keep a couple freezer bags full of them when I can. IMO they work just as good as fresh cut shad. I have done this for a few years now so I don't have to spend a bunch of time looking for bait.
