I was making pickles last night, using a mandolin slicer (http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...andolin+slicer) and managed to cut off the tip of the ring finger on my right hand. Dumb move on my part as I had just been looking at the safety mechanism that stops people from cutting off the tips of their fingers and said to myself, nah, I have done this before, all will be good. Great! I swear and move my hand to the sink, slinging drops blood all over the kitchen floor and the floor cabinet faces. My parents were here, I live in the smaller, second home on the property and mom started yelling, "oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh...", and my dad came running. He asks what happened and I calmly explain that the tip of my finger is now in the bowl holding the cucumbers I had been slicing. Mom actually went over to the bowl, still loudly yelling, "oh", and gets the tip and puts it on the back of the sink. She then asks me what to do with it. I have no idea so my dad looks at it and decides that the doctors would not be able to do much with it, which is fine with me as I would not really like the pain that goes with the needles and open wound combo, and he suggests throwing it away.
Mom then decides that she does not want it in the garbage can, so, being the well mannered son that I am suggest that the dog looks hungry. I think she may have thrown up a little bit in her mouth.
Finger finally quit bleeding and is wrapped and padded. Still hurts a little, but not nearly as bad as I would expect. I am glad it was not the middle or index finger. With it being the finger that it is, I can fold it and my pinky in and still cast and retrieve!
Ouch! Sorry to hear that, but I guess it could be worse.
Soak it in some strawberry Jell-O and I bet it'll make great catfish bait!
