    A Ggost Story

I wrote the other day about “that ominous feeling” I have had on military battlefields. I started to include my one actual experience with a real dead ghost but that thread was too long as it was, so I didn’t do it.

So I will ask here, has anyone else ever encountered a real ghost? I mean where you actually saw the apparition, not just felt that something was there, or that something was going “bump in the night”.

I had been on Okinawa about a year when a friend of mine, that was married to an Okinawan, introduced me to a good (female) friend of his wife. We hit it off from day one and in less then a couple of months we started living together in a small three room, wooden, house not too far from my base. After we had been together about six months I had my first and only actual encounter with a ghost.

I have had a curvature of the spine since I was a young boy and because of it, I always sleep on my side and never on my back. So I was really uncomfortable when I woke up one morning about two O’clock, laying on my back, with my arms locked at my sides and unable to move. Uncomfort-able is an understatement, because when I opened my eyes I saw a young woman was sitting on my stomach, with her legs straddling my arms, and just looking at my face.

I knew my girlfriend was in the bed next to me, but I had no idea what was happening. All I knew was that a very pretty, young girl in a white Kimono was sitting on my stomach and studying my face. I called out, “Setsuko, Setsuko, get this woman off of me!” I yelled that a couple of times before my girlfriend woke up and wanted to know what I was yelling about. I told here there was a woman, in a white Kimono, sitting on my stomach and looking at me and to “get her off of me!”

Setsuko said she couldn’t see anything and she thought I was just having a nightmare. She got out of bed and tried pulling on my arm to get me to wake up, but my arm was pinned at my side and wouldn’t move. After a couple of tries, she realized that I really was awake and she figured out that there was a ghost sitting on my stomach.

She went into the kitchen and got a bag of salt. She came back to the bedroom and started throwing salt on me. When she did that the ghost, looked hurt and disappeared to never be seen again BY ME.

The next day, my girlfriend told the landlady about my experience and the landlady told her what had happened. The land were we were living was originally part of an estate owned by a wealthy feudal lord a couple hundred years ago. He had a wife and several concubines, one of which he had murdered for some unknown reason, but her ghost was still known to walk the land of the old estate. Over the years, she had appeared to many people, so the landlady knew exactly what had happened.

When I came home from work that evening, she asked me to describe the ghost and what I saw was the same as other people had seen before, including the hairdo and the Kimono, which was dressed “right over left” as is done for a dead person who is laid out prior to cremation. Orientals are very fastidious about their customs, one of which is that live people wear the Kimono dressed left over right and ONLY DEAD people are laid out with it right over left. This was an interesting point because, although I had been studying about Okinawan history, I had never been to a wake and had no knowledge of this custom.

I never saw the ghost again, but before I left Okinawa some three years later, I heard that she appeared to a couple more people. So, whether you believe it or not, that was my one encounter with a ghost.

I’ll bet you all will be glad when we can post about politics and I stop writing these long posts. So, I ask again, has anyone else seen an actual Ghost?

Cool story Grump. I have not but I would actually like to, if that sounds weird. I wanna see a UFO too. I believe in both and would like to see something tangible at least to me to solidify in my mind what I really think exists.

    Grumpy,
Wow very similiar thing happened to me while stationed in Germany. We rented a house off post and since I was getting ready to go back to the states my wife left a few months before me.
One night I woke up for some reason with a mans face about two inches from my face! I shut my eyes and had that fight or flight feeling so I decided I wasn't going to lay there and sat up as fast as I could in hopes of head butting this guy but noone was there. I got up turned on the lights and searched the house.....noone was around.
The odd thing is the birds we had always chirped when the lights were on and they were silent.
The ironic thing is my wife had the same thing happen to her in that bed about a month earlier when I was out in the field for a week and I told her it was a dream....I was wrong.
I told the landlady and she admitted that her Dad died in that bed and she heard things once in awhile! I was pissed and moved out within weeks.
Some things started to make sense after that....we had one room that was cold all the time so cold I would store my pressed uniforms in there because it helped keep them crisp. We would misplace things all the time and find them in the oddest places. My wallet would end up on the ktchen counter or in the bathroom and I knew as well as my wife that I always put pocket change, wallet and keys on the hutch in the hallway. Strange but true.

Only time I think I actually saw an apparition was after my Father-In-Law died like I said in the other thread.
I have been in places where I had very strange feelings like Gettysburg and other battlefields or places where deaths occurred.
If you ever get a chance read some of the stories in the book written by Michael Paul Henson "The Tragedy At Devils Hollow". He wrote alot about Kentucky and unexplained happenings that are based on factual evidence that can be looked up.

    Re: A Ggost Story

This happened back in 2000. My wife passed away in April and I tried to find solace in a bottle and I was confused about wether I should stay in the army or not. I set my trail cam up out back and left it there for ablout a week. I took the film to wal mart and got it developed. After sorting through numerous pictures of my beagle's tail end I came across a picture of a large 10 point. And clearly in front of the 10 point was the image of my wife wearing her leather jacket I bought her in Italy. From that day forward my life has changed around and I keep that picture in a box under my bed.
