What is it?
Is it fishing with your best friend
The movement of mechanical things
Out smarting your opponent
The challenge of the fight
Or...
Is it the beauty of the ever-changing seasons
The reason we fish
I fish because it's still cheaper than therapy!!!
Therapy couldn't be that expensive!
Ha Ha
I guess it's partially therapy and partially being outdoors in nature, but mostly I just like catching fish.
Knowledge, Lessons Learned and the never ending learning curve.
Planning out the attact and having it work.
Just in the last couple years, I decide to start gathering info. on how and why the fish do what they do. Visiting Dave Stewart, reading about Mike Iaconelli, Kevin Van Dam, endless scientific book has given me a new outlook on fishing. I just can't get enough. For the first time ever, I took a map of Green River Lake and by breaking down the water by the teaching of Dave, Mike, Kevin.....I picked out 2 spots. Getting out on the water I scan over the spots and throw out marker bouys. I caught 2 fish on the first spot and 1 on the other, all keeper fish. Fishing on the Ledge in Green River. Dave would be proud! This all happened a few weeks ago and it still fresh in my mind.
Remember when we were fishing bobbers as kids. I still can't get the thought of that bobber going under the water out of my head.
This is why I fish!
Stanley
Stanley if Daves class does this for you how about buying all your Fishin.com buddies a Christmas class??? lol Yes there has been some very good ledge fishing on Green this year as hot as it's been. I'd like to take Daves class myself sometime. I'd also like to go with KVD for some spinnerbait & Jerkbait lessons. He's definitley the man.
Some people get therapy, some people take drugs, others drink, I fish
get away from work, wife, problems, breathe clean air, be with friends, yea thats about it! I don't think about the economy, gas, mowin, just where is that little (big) green fish! If you stop and think about it you could go on for days...
The pursuit of "THE BIG ONE" . That's what keeps me coming back. The many dreams I've had hooking something and fighting it forever and right when it is ready to surface...I wake up. Fishing the river to me is like christmas and opening presents, every fish is a present and you never know what it is till you land it. Good thread. Chuck
I feel bad if the boat sits in the driveway too long, it gets lonely.
My dad and uncles took me on many a fishing trip long before I can even remember. I remember the big fish fry's they put on in Morningview Ky. from the great catch of Catfish from the Licking river. They noodlle(sp) and ran trot lines etc. We did the same thing from fish camp on Eagle creek near Folsom Ky.
I'm just proud that some how I was able to hand down this tradition to my son.
He may be a college grad with a nice white collar job! but he sure knows how to catch fish.
Memories of fishing trips in the past and making memories for the future is what keeps me going....
