I feel bad if the boat sits in the driveway too long, it gets lonely.
My dad and uncles took me on many a fishing trip long before I can even remember. I remember the big fish fry's they put on in Morningview Ky. from the great catch of Catfish from the Licking river. They noodlle(sp) and ran trot lines etc. We did the same thing from fish camp on Eagle creek near Folsom Ky.
I'm just proud that some how I was able to hand down this tradition to my son.
He may be a college grad with a nice white collar job! but he sure knows how to catch fish.
Memories of fishing trips in the past and making memories for the future is what keeps me going....
I love to night fish especially thru the week, which means I do it by myself since most everyone else is at work. Mind you I catch bigger fish on the New Moon, which I like it the best, as dark as possible for fishing but for the serenity and peacefullness it gets no better than Dale Hollow Lake on the Full Moon right around midnight. The water is settling down after all the days boat traffic, earlier in the night fishing season when there is just a small chill in the air, full moon, my rod and reel, flourocarbon line and my favorite jig or big spinnerbait just waiting for the pick up and swim off of the jig or sledgehammering hit on the spinnerbait. Peaceful, listening to the woods and the noises that it makes, used to use a blacklight and flourescent line but now no blacklight but like Flourocarbon for the feel better than mono. Love the SLOW rolling of the 1 oz night spinnerbait on the bottom barely touching everything down there and then it happens. A strike so jolting that it almost pulls the rod out of your hand, I have actually caught mine in mid flight as it was jerked out of my hand and almost over the side of the boat TWICE. Dave Stewart tells of many clients that have lost rods over the side of the boat to the viscious strike of Smallmouth on the night spinnerbait. The anticipation, the full moon, the boat, the peacefulness, slight breeze with just a bit of chill in the air, Dale Hollow Lake very few bugs (unlike Ky Lake) just sets everything back to ZERO if that makes any sense. Used to be a plant manager before getting sick 3 years ago and the stress of managing a plant, 110 people, budget of $12MM per month plus 2 teanage daughters and my now 5 yr old son all took its toll and night fishing trips or winter trips to Dale Hollow, especially during the week to get away from some of the crowds, really sets everything back to ZERO and makes life better. Looking forward to passing this passion onto my son. He has a friend staying the night Saturday night and I gave him a choice this morning, Gattitown with his buddy and my wife and I or picnic and fishing poles at the Game Farm in Frankfort, and he chose FISHING. My little buddy is only 5 and hopefully he will always have this passion for fishing and the outdoors instead of Gattitown and video games. He loves to play sports and hopefully will love to fish, but he will have to get someone else to teach him to hunt if he wants. This is why I LOVE TO FISH
Fishing with friends for comradary, fishing alone to sort things out, either way you get to be outdoors and if you do it right no problems. Thank pop for teaching me, thank mom for the rides.
