When does the draw down take place?
supposedly theyre going to have her down 8ft by the first of next month and then gradually draw it down 5 or 6 more feet....may make it tough on us as the green river bass clubs classic is on the 3rd and 4th....but then again ive seen crazy things happen on the water and it may turn them on...as of today theyre pulling it at 830cfs...hopefully it wont shut the fish completely down
Fished from 7-2am last night and found fish on main lake points in 3-20 ft of water. Bites came on 1/4 and 3/8 oz hair jigs(black/blue) and rubber jigs(Rootbeer) with zoom skinny chunks. Fished Monday during the day and had several small fish on deeper banks throwing a chartreuse buzzbait. Also found fish on wood with a shad flat max bomber.
Can someone tell me if they are experiencing issues with hook ups at night with the jig. I missed 10-12 bites and broke 10# Fireline Crystal 3 different times on a short hookset with a loose drag. Either my bites were from a Musky or the line is caught on a rock and cuts when I set the hook.
Yes I had the same thing to happen fishing a Jig Friday Night. They bit it better later on, but a Baby Brush Hog was the ticket. At first the fish would actually hit the rattle & break it off. They however would hit it right a little later on & we caught several & a couple of pretty good ones too.
will tell ya that musky love a black/blue jig....however you can typically tell a musky break off from a bass break off....if youre setting and getting some tension its probably a bass....if youre setting and feeling nothing but limp line its probably a musky....and just wondering did you say you were fishing a jig on 10 pound test...seems considerably light
the no stretch line is bad for short hooksets. i think that you rip the hook out of there mouth. i used the superlines for a while several years ago and constantly broke off 30lb spiderwire on less than 2 lb fish. the last time i tried any i had missed the fish 2 cast in a row so the third he bit again i let him run a little to long he had swallowed it. when i set the hook the line wich was fireline cut the fishes mouth all the way down into the 3rd set of gills the fish was almost dead when i got him in. havent used it since.
Yes I have been using 10# Fireline Crystal on a spinning rod to throw the 1/4 oz jigs. Crystal glows in the blacklight and you can feel every rock. I plan to go back to mono for my night fishing and will do a side by side comparison with mono, superlines and Fluoro next time I get down.
Got a lot of thumps on the jig and nothing when I set the hook. The thump could be the fish spitting the jig out. Sstarted waiting and had a little better luck as the fish would eat it and head for deep water.
Word From Holmes bend Dock was that it was only a 7ft drawdown so they could put RipRap on the face of the dam. That's why the ock is moving all the boats out of the Hollar'. When the level get's down I'll leave my rods at home and take my camera to take as many shoreline pictures as I can get. It's rare to get an oppurtunity like this. While i'm at it I'l be walking the new shoeline looking for all those lost crankbaits. Hope to stock up on some muskie lures and find some Lucky Craft's.
they draw it down 7ft every year to accomodate for the spring rains....hope thats all they do this year and there is no additional draw down
thanks for info...was out there tonight and the fish seemed to be liking the drawdown...fish were exactly where i thought they would be...had one come off that i never saw that might have been the biggest bass ive ever caught...glad she didnt jump before she spit it or i might have been sick
If you find a #7 Bomber in a log on the point between the state dock and the dam I will give $20. for it back! It looks like a Craw. It was one of My fist baits,I know it's 30 + year old!
