I think some of the reason for not drilling MIGHT be strategic. Wait for the Middle East to run out of oil, then the U.S. can control a large part of the market in the future.

I have often thought the same thing but man how long would that take for us to be the one with oil?

Seems that at the rate we are going our country will be owned by China and all our resources will be theirs as well and at that point we will be paying even more for our own oil!

Didn't the fact that the author encourages people to "send this to everyone in your address book" tip you off that its contents were most likely BS? And then, the very first two lines of the actual USGS report (http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1911) say:
"Reston, VA - North Dakota and Montana have an estimated 3.0 to 4.3 billion barrels of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil in an area known as the Bakken Formation. A U.S. Geological Survey assessment, released April 10, shows a 25-fold increase in the amount of oil that can be recovered compared to the agency's 1995 estimate of 151 million barrels of oil.

We import about 10 million barrels of oil a day. So at the very most, this represents just over one year's supply. That's nice, but not enough to have a long-lasting effect on our dependence on foreign oil. And it's about 1/100th of what the author of the chain letter claims.

I also find it interesting that there seem to be two versions of this chain letter floating around. There's the version you got, that says:

Bottom Line.....we will NEVER know how much oil is available here because the OBAMUNISTS will not let us search.

Using technology that is 13 years old (1995) to search is NOT the same as using technology today. Bottom line. THE person who WROTE the report thinks the potential for 2 TRILLION barrels is there.....WHY we're not exploring it is BEYOND belief.

I expect things to go wrong...but that's why they make replacement parts...It's been my experience that it's always cheaper to keep her (accept for in the case of my ex-wife, she HAD TO GO!). I guess for me it's a love between a man and his trucks, or a bonding or something, lol...Kind of like my old dog, all he does is lays around, but I ain't gettin' rid of him.

C-Minner: Hey, I wasn't taking a shot at older cars, just most folks aren't like you and me and maintain them. Agred, you keep an oldie up to snuff, and its gets good mileage. Seems to me most of the old Chevy 283's or 327's in top tune got in the 25 mph neighborhood. It's just that most folks out there don't take the same kind of extraordinary care of a ride that you and me do. That's were I was going. Ya know, the 80's model Buick Regal ya see, for example, running down the road blowing blue smoke kinda deal. AGain, not intended shot at folks that own oldies, note was to highlight that older cars will tend to get worse gas mileage do to age and state of maintenance, and getting them off the road does hlep fuel economy.
