My 3rd and 4rth grader are off school next Thursday and I am taking off work to get them on the water. We need to stay local so we are heading to T-ville. Anyone have any advice on bass, hybrids, or crappie. The kids are happy if we are putting fish in the boat and are really excited if we get to take some home. Usually keep the hybrids or crappie (on th rare occasion we get some that are big enough) and throw the Bass back. Any help is appreciated.
If you just want to get them into some fish, any fish, I'd suggest slow trolling a small jig for White Bass & Hybrids. You might try around the mid-lake area, just before the "horseshoe bend", along the open bank side of that stretch. I'd suggest staying in the 10-15ft depth range, and run your jigs about 6-8ft deep. A white or chartreuse 1/16ounce marabou jig, with a couple of #3 or #4 pinch-on sinkers about 18" up the line, should allow you to maintain those depths.
You're also subject to catching the occasional Catfish, Crappie, and even Bass. Look for Shad activity ... but, if the Shad are covering the surface area in great swarms, you may have to try another area (or even another species). I've never done any good when the Shad are that thick. When they're in scattered schools, yes ... but when it looks like the entire population of Shad is cruising the surface, from bank to bank, not so much ... LOL !!
