Obviously, there are people for whom the flu shot is not only a good idea, but necessary. I wasn't talking about those people. Perhaps I should have clarified that, but I thought it was relatively obvious."Anymore, it seems that people almost think it's life or death if they don't get the shot."
What about my friend who has ALS, or my husband who is a heart patient, or people who have asthma, or Muscular Dystrophy patients. It IS a matter of life and death if they don't get the shots.
Yep, you believe that exposure to germs is good for you. What about malnourished children, and they are in the good old USA, who eat dirt to fill their empty bellies? I don't believe their immune system is quite strong enough to kick out the bad germs and keep the good ones.

My opinion is that the majority of people do not need one.
I've got a regular flu shot the past couple years as has my wife and youngest son and none of us have been sick with plenty of others in our area having the flu.The H1N1 virus worries me though as the vaccine isn't out yet and there have been a dozen cases in my son's elementary school.Bishop Broussard School in Alexandria,Ky closed due to epidemic of the H1N1 virus, there have been multiple deaths in children up through college age students in the Greater Cincinnati Area,It is not Hype.
Xavier University was pondering shutting down and there have been two deaths at Miami,Oh University in the past few days.On top of the "Swine" Flu there is a bad viral pnuemonia going around also.I only hope my son gets by until the vaccine comes out,my family intends to take the shot when it's available, silly to take chances.

This strain of the H1N1 flu has shown to have less health ramifications to those who contract it than does the regular flu.
I think it's just a way for drug companies to get people to take 2 shots this year.
I never took a flu shot in my life until I started 2 years ago,but about in 2006 I caught some strain of either flu or upper respiratory virus that knocked me down for over a week and I'm a strong person.I don't recall hearing of many influenza deaths from normal varities except in elderly or weakened individuals, but a 23 year old girl just died from H1N1 at Miami University and a 26 year old man at UC.
You may laugh ole buddy but the only time I have ever had the full blown flu was about a week after I took it. I have never taken it since and I've never had the flu since either. It is impossible to get the flu from the vaccination. It is a DEAD virus. I laugh everytime I hear someone say that they won't get the flu vaccination because they always get the flu right after they get it. The only way this is possible is if there are two flu strains in a given year. Like this year, although you get a flu vaccination, you can still get H1N1 flu strain (swine flu). Although they are coming out with a vaccination for that soon. GET YOUR FLU SHOT!!! Will save you lots of missed work days if you do.

None for me Thanks!
Speaking as a former healthcare professional (I was an RN in a cardiac ICU for 6 years), I just want to say one thing. If you really have a question about whether or not to get a flu shot, please, ask your doctor. Don't go by what you read on this or any other message board, pro or con.
How did you go from Nursing to Network Services??.......Sounds like a pretty big change![]()

I do pretty well with the flu shots. Get them every year. This year might be different though. The nasal spray is a live virus but weak. The injection is a dead virus. If I'm feeling under the weather I would not take the nasal spray. Depends on if I have a choice.
A lot of what drew me into critical care was the technology. It was really exciting to care for patients who had Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, Swan-Ganz catheters, etc in place, and I especially loved assisting with cardiac caths and angioplasties. The hospital where I worked was one of the first in the country to use angioplasty as a first-line treatment for acute MI. But along the way, I also participated in dozens of code blue's, and was present at a number of deaths. After a while, I had trouble leaving all that at work. So, when I had the opportunity to make a relatively smooth transition from nursing to IT, I took it, and I haven't looked back. The biggest workplace emergency I've been involved with since then was that water main break, and nobody's life was in danger there![]()
What? What is this this stuff I'm reading?
Do you guys realize that you are going along with Obama's recommendation? He is saying that Americans should get the flu vaccine. And you guys are doing it.
