    Re: Sloppy Joe Recipe ??

My mother used to make some killer sloppy joes by using tomato puree and chili powder, also made slaw to put on them, the ones from our school used to same recipe, also manwich works good. I do miss the old oatmeal cookies that we had in school and the toasted cheese sandwiches, ah those were the days.

    Re: Sloppy Joe Recipe ??

I hope my recipe will give you some ideas.

    1-1/2 pounds ground beef
    1 onion, chopped
    1 red bell pepper, chopped
    1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
    1 cup water
    1/4 cup Heinz ketchup
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    1/2 tablespoon chili powder
    1 teaspoon paprika
    1 teaspoon dried mustard
    1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
    3 tablespoons brown sugar
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
    8 hamburger buns, split

In a sauce pan (for small consistency) or a large skillet put on medium-high heat, saute' the ground beef for 5 minutes. Add the onion, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, and 2 cloves of minced garlic; saute' for 5 more minutes, or until onion is tender. Drain the fat.

Mix in tomato paste and water, stirring until paste is dissolved. Stir in ketchup, garlic, chili powder, paprika, vinegar, oregano, dried mustard, salt and pepper.

Add brown sugar 10 minute before stirring. (If you add it too early it may burn).

Put some ground or chopped deer meat in there and consider it done.

Chicken, deer, pork, or turkey can be substituted for the beef in the receipe that I posted. Also the chili powder can be adjusted to taste; the amount I posted gives a little bit of a kick to it.

I do not recommend fishing worms or carp as a substitute. LOL

It is not homeade but if you have to buy the can try the Manwich Bold version over just the plain version. The Bold version is SO MUCH better in a pinch if you must. I start with this and add some ketchup, brown sugar, tony creole seasoning and fresh cracked pepper to make sort of a sweet and spicy Joe. I like it and my kids LOVE it. Better the next day.
