Anyone know if these are sold anywhere around the Louisville area or the Ky/Bkly Lake areas? I haven't seen them in BPS in Clarksville but they may be there. Didn't find them on BPS online. Going to Ky lake in a week and a half and thought they might be interesting to try with a fluke. I would rather actually look at them before buying than to just order online somewhere like tackle warehouse. Anyone on this board tried them before? Really expensive.
I heard from a reliable source that lucky strike now owns it to avoid line twist use a swivel from my expierence they catch a lot of little fish on the ohio river but I hear those ala. spots sure like them.Anyone know if these are sold anywhere around the Louisville area or the Ky/Bkly Lake areas? You can get them at Backwaters in Lexington. Call and talk to John Meyers, tell him Elwood sent you and he will work out in getting them shipped to you in plenty of time for your trip. He has several different sizes that will fish shallow and deep. Their phone number is 859-266-4506. I believe it was Aaron Martin that invented this thing for the Coosa River Spotted Bass and flat out killed them on this lure before putting it into being manufactured and sold to the public. By the way, they are not cheap so be prepared to dish out a little coin. I already have a few of them for my trip to Ky Lake in a couple of weeks for another shad imitating bait to give them something to look at other than a crankbait.
Actually the bait is an old striper bait Aaron refined it to make it more suitable for bass fishing. If your worried about the price you can buy the salt water versions for a lot cheaper but the components aren't quality.
You can get them at the tackle store in Gilbertsville---The Bass Pro shop. I know they had them last year. Haven't been in there this year.
I like them alot, but my girlfriend really loves them. They have bailed me out when fishing was tough. She would throw them anywhere around the boat and always ended up catching something. Stripers really do like them. We got into a mess of Hybrids at Rough one time and they were slamming these things. I was even using the small 1/8 oz ones with a Zoom split tail trailer---like a spinnerbait trailer. They worked awesome.
Last year I bought some of the 1 oz. ones and it was like cranking a DD22. Didn't end up using it much.
I just ordered some more of the little ones---they were $6.95 for 2 of them. They are pricey! I don't remember them being so expensive when they first came out--but who knows.
Good luck---flukes do work on them too.
Oh, I ordered mine from www.basstackledepot.com out of CA
Thanks for the help so far.
I am interested in these for Kentucky Lake as another shad imitator to throw but I also have a real interest in throwing them at Rough for hybrids, something I first got into this summer. So I appreciate hearing that have worked for someone in that capacity.
Are they as hang up preventative as the ads claim them to be?
Has anyone else out there had luck in our area fishing with them, whether it be for stripers or SM, LM, KY bass?
KY Lake outdoorworld Behind cracker barrel in Calvert City, I bought some there a couple days ago.
Yea they will surprise you..
I love a few miles from where they make these lures which is good ole Lawrenceburg, IN. Been to there lil factory before and they were the nicest people to deal with. Sold me some right there and they also had a giant fish tank trailer with some bass in it and they let me try there scroungers in it. Was pretty fun considering it was January and I hadnt felt the pull of a bass in a few weeks. They have there own website where you could order them I thought but could be wrong.
I caught a couple 14-15in yesterday morning with a lake fork magic shad in baby bass color. also works with shad color.
I live in Lawrenceburg about 1 mile from their shop. These things are hands down one of the best baits ive ever picked up. Ive caught everything from catfish to walleye to smallies on these things. I do very well at Dale Hollow for smallies and use them quite often striper fishing on Cumberland. The folks that make them are wonderful people and a pleasure to talk to.
I gave a couple to a guy from Maysville that fishes Cave Run quite a bit. 3 weeks later he made a trip up here to get more. He came back into my restaurant just raving about the bait. He said he had caught the 3 biggest muskie in his life since using them.
The people making them grew up with AM and I think they are cousins. Either way AM been usin them for years. I can get you some contact info if you need it. They will sell to you right out of the facility.
So any recommedations on the the best size for hybrids and what plastic to use?
