Here are a few things:
1. Smoke Detector Originally installed on the Skylab space station in early 1970s to alert crew members of unexpected fumes, smoke detectors are now required by law in every U.S. residence to prevent house fires. Yeah, it’s not just there to beeping annoy you when the battery needs changing.
Since when are smoke detectors required by law? That one is a new one on me.
Yep any new Residential dwelling is required to have smokes in the bedrooms, outside the bedrooms and at least one on each floor. The Building Codes require it and they have to be in tandum so if one sounds they all sound.![]()
Don it sounds like you work for a consulting engineering firm...so do I.
Some of the things George mentioned might not have come directly from "going to the moon," but I don't think you can separate going to the moon from the overall space program, and they certainly did come from that. Look at the cost of this last moon mission, about $78 million. That's a drop in the bucket compared to the overall space program. And one thing nobody can deny came from the space program is satellite communication (without which there would be no GPS), and imagery, and I think those are pretty darned important to our military. IMHO staying ahead in the space race is vital to our national security.
Haha I hear ya man...we are a systems integration firm and I run the Life Safety Division. I do alot of consulting with local engineers and the local AHJ. Been doing it for 22 years now.Wow time sure flies!
