    When Decent People Do Nothing

"All that is needed for evil to succeed is, that decent human beings do nothing!" Edmund Burke

I know no one on Fishin.com is sending me political emails but I get tired of getthing them from friends and family, when all they do is present a bunch of information, most of which I usually agree with, and then say: "If you agree pass it on--if not just delete." The problem I have with these emails, and many of the things posted on Fishing.com Off Topic Board, is that they never recommend any action, the least of which should be to send a letter or an email to your elected representatives.

I have posted the addresses before, but just in case someone needs them:

    President Barack Obama
    The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Ave
    Washington, DC 20500

    http://www.whitehouse.gov

    For your Senators, go to:

    http://www.senate.gov

Click on the box in the upper right, then go to your state to get your Sanators addresses and email.

    For you Congressman/woman, go to:

    http://www.house.gov

Enter your ZIP Code in the box in the upper left.

The bottom line is, if you don't like what is happening in our government, tell the people in the government how you feel!! It does work if enough people write to them but when you do nothing EVIL WILL SUCCEED.

Have comfort my friend because you have lit the fire under my butt and since then I have sent emails and I get replies. Started a file just to keep a record of them.

Yep - forwarding emails and signing online petitions is really just a way to stay lazy and fool yourself into thinking you did something.

Know1, you are exactly right. Most of those on-line petitions say "please don't delete this because we will loose all the names" etc. but in reality only the one thread you delete would be lost and that would not be a loss because it never does get sent to the Congressmen, Senator or President anyhow. Even if someone did forward it to them it would not be accepted, just rejected as Spam. That is according to two different Congressman's offices I have talked to. Each individual must send their own email.

Re: When Decent People Do Nothing

Kyfanatic, as I have posted before, I have written letters to every President since and including Dwight D. Eisenhower and most of my Senators and Congressmen over that same period. Bill Clinton is the first President that I never got a response from. Obama (to date) is the second one, but they sure put my email on their spam list. Now, I am not niave enough to think that any of them actually saw or answered my correspondence, it is done by staffers. But the point is that someone is making a tick mark for or against something and it does get recorded and the tally is seen the the Official.

As far as getting a reply from Pelosi, Reid or others, it has nothing to do with them being Democrats or Repuliicans, they will not reply because you (I) are not one of their constituents, but I believe that your opinion is still recorded, at least it was from what the office of a previous Speaker of the House told me. I still send copies to Pelosi and Reid.

I agree that voting is the best tool we have and letters/emails are next best. Don't give up, keep writing and calling.

Re: When Decent People Do Nothing

An excellent post, Grumpy, and I too have now emailed President Obama, Jim Bunning, Mitch McConnell, and John Yarmuth, concerning healthcare reform. And while, on this particular issue, I agree with what most people on this board have posted, I'm sure I'll be sending other ones on which we disagree. But what's of overriding importance here is that ALL of us, no matter which side of a particular issue we're on, make our voices heard.

Re: When Decent People Do Nothing

    Grumpy,
I have emailed Obama,Pelosi (Uhggg),several Senate and House Committees,Every Senator and Representative from Kentucky,Governor Beshear, and about 75% of the state representatives.I wrote reasonable, calm letters that were individually aimed at different topics.I have yet to get one response from any Democratic politician and only Jim Bunning,Mitch McConnell, and Geof Davis have replied.
I post stuff continuosly here because I admit that I don't have a complete solution, but I know if all the decent people would stick together in outrage against what's going on in Washington with the Commies things can be changed,in my opinion the best thing that could happen would be to vote out every current politician in office as a message.I post this stuff as a warning and in hopes that others will see what is going on and stand up to it like I am trying my best to do.Unfortunately we have allowed our children to be brainwashed through schooling to believe all the garbage these far left Commie Freaks tell them, some to the point of no hope.
