Which Fluorocarbn to buy

Like I said 30 different answers from 100 different fishermen. I do think it is funny that 2of the worst lines I have ever put on my reels, so bad that it only took one roll of Vanish Transition, that I bought and Trilene 100% Flourocarbon that a buddy of mine gave me 5 rolls to try asking for my input due to being pressured by one of the bigger companies to have him put it in his store, are both reccommended here. I have always wondered if there are some rolls of line that are better than other rolls of line, within the same brand, size and diameter. Vanish Transition to me broke easier than dental floss the one time I spooled it up with 6lb on a spinning reel and broke off about 4 fish that day. These 4 fish were all seen and none of them was bigger than 2lbs, all were Ky Spotted Bass caught with live bait at Cumberland. After breaking off 4 different fish that I saw, was enough to know that this line was terrible. Trilene 100% Flourocarbon was spooled on 5 of my baitcasters after I was given 5 rolls to try right before my first spring trip to Ky Lake in 2008. It had just came out and a buddy of mine that owns his own bait and tackle company was considering putting it in his store. He gave me the rolls to try asking my opinion. I found it a MILLION times harder to cast than XPS, backlashed all day on day 1 and I spooled it the same way I spool all my baitcasters. Fought that one day and went and bought 5 rolls of XPS at The Cabin that night and re-spooled all of them and had no problems then next 5 days of the trip. I found the line had terrible memory and extremely stiff to start. I know I had 5 reels full of it and tried all of them with the same result that first day. There again, it had just came out, maybe it has changed since but it is also reccommended here. I guess it all comes down to CONFIDENCE, which is a major part of fishing. Whatever line you have, whatever bait, presentation, location, presentation, etc...., If your not confident in your line then you will have doubts. To me XPS is the best on the market, maybe it is maybe it is not, but I know when I am spooling it up there is no thought of backlashing, breakoffs or any other problems, and every cast there is never a thought that runs thru my mind, "Is my line going to hold if I catch a good one". I use XPS 4-6lb as leaders for my FNF up to 14-17lb test on my baitcasters and even think that "for the money" the Bass Pro Shop Mono is the best Mono on the market, 1500 yards for around $8, can't be beat. I will buy Bass Pro Shop line, Mono and XPS, as long as it continues to perform like it has in the past because I have confidence in it. Again just my opinion and surely more on this topic will come

I agree on the XPS. It's the best I've used so far. I used InvisX this year but i think I'm going back to XPS. I didn't have any problems with the invisX but I think the XPS is a little more sensitive, it may be in my head but that's my thoughts. I haven't had any problems with backlash or breakage with either one.

I've used Trilene, XPS, Vicious, Pline, and Vanish. Stren Fluorocarbon beats them all, IMO. It's harder to find but worth it.

It isn't cheap but Gamma edge FC works great. I have had one knot fail in 3 years. I had line break mid-cast 1 time but will share that that 12# line had landed at least 150 fish that week and was probably damaged from all the use.

I have not stayed with Gamma because of reliability. I have stayed with it because it is the most sensitive line that I have fished other then a braid. In many instances, I prefer it over braid. The reliabiity on top of sensitivity is why I have stayed. I tried the BPS FC in a 17# and it worked fine then I had a knot breakoff near the hook that spooked me and went back to Gamma.

Before I found Gamma, I had the misfortune of knowing Vanish and Triplefish. The vanish was complete xyz and the Triplefish just above it.

I also fish alot of Pline Floroclear and Yozuri Hybrid. Both good lines, neither is real FC and both has quite a bit of stretch. I use this line for moving baits and use mostly Yozuri now because I have purchased it so cheap. Nice line but does not compare to Gamma FC for feel.

I've posted this several times but you can take a Gloomis 783 GLX and the same rod in IMX. Put Gamma FC on the IMX and Yozuri on the GLX and the IMX/Gamma rod will be more sensitive to the GLX in a blind test and by a big amount. Line really matters.

Braid of course is very sensitive and I use it in Florida but find it not so good at KYL with all the rocks.

I suggest you buy a few spools of several FC's in 16# and do a few tests. First, tie a hook on and attach the hook to some weights and very slowly lift the weights off the floor. Note where the lines breaks and with how much weight. If you don't like the way a FC performs in your house you will not like it on the water. Vanish FC taught me to always test my lines at home Next, fish the FC's side by side with a bottom bouncing crank or worm. Now you are ready to pick what you like and see how it holds up over time. When it has held true for 2 years, let us know what you picked
