Interesting read Tim. I'm a fan of the movie "A River Runs Through It"...have it at home on DVD, etc...this may not pertain to this thread at all but as a side note we all like to catch fish, catchin' is catchin...and catchin' is good, whether it be trollin', crankin', live bait presentations, umbrella rigs, balloons, spoons or whatever it takes...but in my own experiences of fishin' I am never more at ease, more at peace and one with nature than when I'm fly fishin'. I ain't any good at fly fishin', I've only fly fished a couple of times but the few times that I have I noticed a certain calming about it that I really enjoyed.
It is very relaxing. you should hit the Smokies backcountry for some cool scenery and wild trout.
Great story. I also have this movie on DVD. Having fished several rivers out west, there's nothing quite like fishing alone in a mountain stream and having a trout explode on a topwater fly. The scenery is incredible.
Heading to the South Holston next weekend. Can't wait.
Love that movie! I had a similar experience as did Brad Pitt in the end of the movie....however....The fish I had on was half the size, and I went swimming because I slipped....but I did look just like him....maybe not as good looking....OK, it was nothing like the fish scene with Brad.I did land the fish however.
