At least I know I'm not the only one struggling on the big lakes right now. I'm not sure why, but at least for me the N. end of the lake has turned really tough. I've been catching a few fish, but very few keepers and certainly not any pattern to the catches.
I know the winner of the BFL regional caught about 50 lbs., but he was running about 90 miles one way.
My best bite has been on crankbaits and spoons in the bays with the boat in about 10-12' and throwing in to 4-6'. But like I said "best" is pretty relative!!

mattbay caught a 20+ inch fish on sat that looked like a giant shad. i never thought they could grow that large. could that be right? it wasn't a drum.

Love to see a picture of that... and man what a nice piece of bait. Chuck
I have caught Gizzard Shad as big as 15 1/2 inches long and surely that was not as big as they get. I do know that when they get that size it will take a pretty big fish to eat them. Saw a study somewhere that said a Bass can eat a fish like a Shad up to 1/2 it's body length and a fish shaped like a Bluegill up to 1/3 its body length. Take a pretty big fish to eat a 15-20 inch shad and I bet a shad this size is eating it's own kind to get that big.
Elwood good to see you feelin better,Some of my big ole flats, and blues don't have any problem with that size bait.lol Man I got to get down to the hollow and have you show me how to FnF. With you and Mhall allway's talkin about them brown critters I think I'd enjoy it.Marks been trying to get me to go down to C-land, just hard to get me to leave my river. You teach me about the River and I will teach you about the FNF and Dale. Live so close to the Ky River and with basically only working 6 months in going on 3 years now, the money is running out and I need to fish closer to home. Planning on fishing the fly on the river this winter but would like to get into some hybrids or sauger on the river. Mark is a pretty good guy and if he is trying to get you to the Big C, then you may want to take him up on the offer.Elwood good to see you feelin better,Some of my big ole flats, and blues don't have any problem with that size bait.lol Man I got to get down to the hollow and have you show me how to FnF.
