Have you noticed how often fish are exploding these days? This is a problem someone needs to do something about.
I was watching a TV fishing show recently when I saw this happen. The host was working a topwater lure when a bass struck and missed.
“Did you see that fish explode?” he shouted. No doubt many people in the viewing audience were worried that the pro could have been injured had the explosion been larger.
Exploding fish are found in books as well. Just last week I read this line:
“The fish shot into the shallow riffle and literally exploded.”
In this case, the fish was a catfish. That explosion could have gotten me!
Sometimes whole populations are blowing up. One state fisheries department issued a report (or was it a warning?) that said:
“The bass population in Lake Smith is exploding.”
And on an Internet fishing forum, I found this report:
“I witnessed hundreds, maybe thousands, of exploding fish yesterday over the span of four hours and roughly 10 miles. They were all over the place at same time, which tells me there were many of them out there and not just one school cruising around.”
What would happen if a cruise ship ran into one of the schools of exploding fish? Or a boatload of children. The consequences could be disastrous.
Be careful, my friends. If a fish blows up on your lure, will you be ready? Don’t wind up like Jim who is immortalized in this poem:
“Dear Jim died when a fish exploded,
He didn’t know that the bass were loaded.”

The only exploding fish I ever remember seeing was when a few "Good Ol' Boys" dynamited the river, guess the fish have begun jihad against us in retaliation.Expect to see suicide fish bombers in boats soon.
