I had a Mercury I couldn't touch the primer bulb without flooding it. I would try to start it without priming it...just a thought, they are the most temprimental engines out there.

thanks, for the reply. you know i've tried everything, except not pumping up the priming bulb. i will make it a point to try that. i put a new fuel line on it, put new plugs in it, tried starting it by pushing in the key to choke, tried it by not pushing in the choke, tried it by advancing the throttle, and tried it by leaving the throttle in neutral position. it has never failed to start, but it cranks so long before it starts. that my starter can't last for long.

i'm not sure about your engine but many efi mercs will richen the fuel mixture controlled by the computer. holding your choke in without cranking simultaneously does nothing. crank and push key in and hold. continue holding it in until engine starts and continues to run. if it starts to die, push it in again.

I went fishing today, tried starting my motor without pumping up the bulb. thats the only thing i had not tried. and it did not help any. cranked forever then started. ran great allday, started every time. then it did something it had never done. going down the lake, turning 5000 rpm for about 2 miles. sounded perfect, and just shut off. i stopped and cranked it, fired back up, took off went about 500 feet and died again. it did this all the way back to the boat ramp. about 500 feet was all i could get between starts. i've not checked it yet, it may be a clogged fuel filter. i hope thats what it is, and if so that could be the reason it's so blasted hard to start. has any of you guys ever had this problem, if so what did you do to fix it. thanks for reading this, and thanks for any info.

and as always, may the good lord bless.
