    Re: It's already starting

I don't think it's shallow comparing Pitino and Calipari. Pitino's issues more recently have been personal life issues, but my guess is if you'd cheat on your wife you'd probably do a "little extra" to get that 5 star recruit. I don't think either program is all that clean but the ole' saying goes "if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'". You can't win today by dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's. I find it very comparable to the steroid situation in baseball. This kind of stuff happens every day at every major program - the only problem is now in the technology age you can't get away with it any more. Too many people want to be the one to break the "big news". I almost wish they could get away with it like they used to...........

I the fan just want to see some good quality basketball games this year.........

I'm not a Pitino fan club member, I respect what he does and he is **** good at it but he is a slick willy slime ball. No need to get upset because it's just my opinion but the guy is like a politician. Power, money. lies, women and a HUGE ego.

It is very funny how UK has been an easy target for jokes (even by me) with their recent coaches but as soon as they get a big name coach people (media) are looking to tear him down even when he hasn't done anything wrong.

Just consider the media source and the motive and then look at the story and it reads as self serving for P.F.....Heck with all this lets see them play ball!

    Re: It's already starting

Hey guys don't assume I'm a Pitino worshiper because I'm not. Quite frankly I support him only because he coaches my team. I am not the 1000 dollar suit New Yorker type by any means and really can't warm up to that at all. So since this thread has turned into a my Dad is better than your Dad THREAD like I new it would let me clear that one up right now.

In fact has human beings I don't like either of them as they are both Yankee Italian Gangsta wanna be's. I'm more of a Joe B. Hall kinda guy or a Denny Crum guy, them boys can hunt and fish. Can you see Ricky or Calimari with a baitcaster in their hand. LOL.

But I will say this to. All you loyal Cat fans that bash Pitino right now was seriously on his Jock at one time and you **** well know it!

There are very few Cat fans, regardless of what they say, who wouldn't have taken Slick Rick back in a heartbeat after Tubbs left...

    Re: It's already starting

Tubby!!! Tubby!!!! Tubby!!!!, the ONLY coach UK has had since Hall with any CLASS at all FROM START TO FINISH!!!!!! One thing with "10 loss Tubby" as people called him right before he was ran out of town, he played no favorites, sat starters and star players for not going to class and other team violations during the regular season and during the SEC tourney. Class act all the way out the door, never said a negative word about UK, even when the signs were being put in his front yard and all the rest. One Class Act that I can say Sutton, Pitino, Gillespie and Calipari could ALL learn a thing or two from. I am a UK fan and always have been but neve like the way Tubby was ran out of town for UK and their arrogance was sure to get "Billy" and they got him too but it was Billy G not Billy D. Calipari has a fun style but rumors and allegations follow him around at every stop he has been at, collegiate speaking, not to mention the Bombshell attempt at the NBA. I think all programs "cheat", to what degree and to what extent is the difference. Some get caught and some don't but I do think all programs "cheat", meaning not following the rules 100% of the time. An extra phone call here, a letter there, extra practise time here and there, "voluntary" workouts that just happen to have all players attending.....they all cheat but to what degree. If Calipari keeps us off probation and can bring some class and dignity back to the program then that is enough for me. You will NEVER see the UCLA dominance of however many final fours and championships again by ANY program. Kids are different today. They care more about the name on the back of the jersey than the one on the front of the jersey. These kids have not played their first collegiate game but Wall, Cousins, Orton.... are already mentioned as one and done players with Wall being talked about as the overall number 1 pick. As far as I am concerned, go back to the way it was before, let the HS kids go and attempt the NBA draft out of HS. If they don't get drafted then too bad for them. Why is College Basketball any different than Baseball or Football, you can try and go pro right out of HS in Baseball but once you sign and attend college you are commited for a couple of years, Football does not allow them to come straight out of HS either and Basketball makes you be out of HS for 1 year before you can try the pros. Make it all the same, either let them go or make them stay in College a min of 3 years. How many of these kids that are one and done kids really make an effort in the classroom? Would you, if you knew within 8 months you were going to be drafted making Millions with no education needed, just skills. Off my soapbox now, the last part is not related to the thread but wanted to add.

Nice post Woody, and you are correct, the Tubster had one thing everywhere he has been and that has been solid disipline and integrity. Nobody can take that away from the man. You are also right about how he was handled to, it was wrong bigtime. Mitch Barnyard should have been fired a long time ago.

For all that class Tubby had he took a Minnesota job before the season was over and left without so much as a goodbye to the players he recruited. He wasn't fired.
He was bullheaded and refused to change the Asst Coaches he had to improve recruiting, funny he never took any of them to Minnesota with him.
Sure all the rival fans loved Tubby, because he wasn't getting the job done anymore.

From the UK Atheletic Dept. where I have ties.

Tubby Smith was not fired,he quit.He had already accepted the Minnesota job after visiting there in January of his final year,he never said a single word to the players on the current team about it until after the fact.

My neighbors daughter is married to a Lexington developer,is a coach in the UK womens Tennis team, and was a neighbor and friends with Tubby and Donna Smith, they were upset over Tubby leaving, but facts are facts.
