    Appreciate all input.

I shot the guy an email and told him we'd been fishing together for 15 years, I been doing all the boat maintenance, gas buying, planning, loading and unloading, towing and was just getting tired of being the tour guide as well as having to front all the costs and all the effort and all the tackle. I asked him to consider inviting me sometime, even he didn't have a boat, even if it was a guided trip, so that I occassionally could be the guest, and do a little relaxing. A wake up call to share the effort of the freindship. Since 1995, I've been 0ut 212 times, he's been along 50, and of the total trips, 99 were to Cland, and 22 he was a guest. All that from my boat log.

Will wait and see how that works out. In the meantime, since he says he's in the process of buying a new boat, and has said he'd get me out on it, I'll take a wait and see approach. If he invites me, I'll return the favor with an invite. He invites me on a paid guided trip, I'll go, and return the favor with 3 or 4 trips to show appreciation. Lest any of that------beach feet.

Boils down to a "if you really are a freind, put up or shut up, the gravey line stops here".

    We'll see how it works.

    Re: When you invite....

If I go fishing with someone else. I will pay my half (gas in the boat or the truck), food, drinks or something along that line. Offer to tow the boat and use my truck. Put the total bill together and split it. But I always offer more than half. It's their rig I am using. Money being tight for most people now days, Personally I will always offer more than my half. Miles on the total rig add up eventually.

Use my own equipment. But keep my gear open to my partener. I want them to catch fish also. You lose something of mine (tackle) oh well. That's fishing. Eventually I'll lose or break the bait off anyway. You tie your own knots. I'm not someones knot $&*%@!

If I am taking my rig, I am heading somewhere anyway, so It doesn't matter much. I own a small rig. You pay the food and drink tab for the both of us. That's all I ask of people going with me.

From your original post, I thought you were talking about a first time trip, not a long standing relationship. Dear Abby frequently says: "no one can take advantage of you without your permission!!"

    Re: When you invite....

When I go with someone new, I usually outline the trip.........and I try to split at least the gas. Fishing these days is expensive, and splitting those expenses makes going easier.

A friend who has been going for 15 years and doesn't help out, would not be going with me......I've been there, DONE that..........

    Later,

    Geo
